I got into a discussion with a co-worker today about who would win in a fight. It was between Elvis (The Young One) and Johnny Cash. It turned into a survey around the office and I thought I would bring it here. So who do you think would win.

I went with the just released from the army, martial arts enthusiast Elvis, and he went with the booze guzzling Johnny C.

    The...
Yes, this is the strangest poll (not pole) I've seen here in more than
    (not then) five years.

But why designate Elvis as "the young one"? To be fair, why not
    Elvis, the bloated, middle-aged, over-the-hill druggie has-been?

    Apples to apples.

    I'm just sayin'...

Elvis hands down if he was the young one. As Leww said. He has a black belt infact I think it was a higher level degree black belt if I recall.

    Phoenix,...
Elvis didn't earn the black belt until later in his life (I think). Cash was also in the Army and would have had the same level of training as the "just released form the Army" Elvis. The "Booze Guzzling" Cash was also hopped up on amphetamines, which cancels out a lot of the affects of alcohol, and give super strength.

My goofy poll would be: "Fat" Elvis and "Fat" Jerry Garcia battling over over a smoked turkey leg.

Based on a quick check it got his black belt at the age of 25. I would consider that young Elvis..

Seeing first hand martial arts training (and participating).

The "belt" and the degree of the belt... are to be respected...
However... I personally know First Degree black-belts in TaeKwonDo that could destroy 2nd and 3rd degree black belts.

The ranks correspond traditionally to the study, practice, and the ability to complete the techniques during testing... and is certainly something to be respected.

How ever the actual application of those techniques during a competition fight or a street fight... is something that doesn't necessarily match to the "testing"... and is something that needs to be practiced and worked on.

I am a brown belt... and during our last sparring session, had my rear handed to me by an orange belt 21yr old (Brown is 3 belts higher then Orange).

    But as to the question:

Johnny Cash would win. as I think Johnny just bigger in size, and from what I have seen in movie/tv portrails... had a "switch" that would flip everyonce and a while.
