When I got my HR20 and two HR21s, I took out the 3 internal hard drives and
installed 3 WD 1TB drives inside.

Since the original HR20/21 drives had no recordings on them I decided to
partition/format them for use inside my PC. However, I have been unable
to format any of them... In fact, my PC just doesn't seem to be able to
recognize them.... I used the Disk Management tool in WindowsXP.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

You need to remove the existing partitions then create a new one (or ones) for XP to use.

I've done that to one HR20 drive without problem. (Another coming at some point.)

    Cheers,

So, what are you going to do if you need to replace one of the units and need to put the original disk back in?

Use the infamous fdisk utility, blow away everything on it then repartition/format.

The partitions on the disk are Linux based, that is why you have to blow it all away.
