CI for cable companies is through InDemand. DirecTV and Dish negotiate directly with the NHL.
I am getting blacked out on TSN HD but just saw it come back.
They're blacking out the commercials.
I think you may be talking about the DIRECTV logo during commercials. For the most part, the rest of the game has been on for me.
No such luck with tsn wpg game. Directv was teasing.
My HR24 was saying there was going to be a Jets HD feed but my H24 said there wasn't. I guess the H24 was right.
I believe the only reason we are seeing Mtl game in HD is because its OPENING night there.
I wouldn't count on this TSN thing in the future.
I think its bait and switch because of the free preview... wait, lets not go there again.
Sounds promising for Sabres fans - let's just hope the Dolan's don't find out DirecTV is broadcasting in HD and pull the rug out from under us again:hurah:
The issue regarding the Canadian HD feeds is two fold - partially the NHL and partially DirecTV.
The NHL does make Canadian HD feeds available as part of NHL Center Ice. But it doesn't pay the fees for the providers to downlink them (which as I remember they do for SD feeds). So my hunch is the DirecTV ponied up to pay to get the Canadiens game in HD tonight. Now, the NHL could pay for the downlink fees for the providers and I would imagine we'd see a lot more Canadian HD feeds.
The rest of the HD feeds DirecTV doesn't have to pay extra to provide - they already provide them as RSNs. We've suspected that there's some sort of arrangement in place between DirecTV and SNET-Ontario since we do often see SNET-Ontario feeds in HD.
It looks like we're getting a back haul feed from the Montreal stadium, which is why there are no commercials. Maybe we'll get TSN home feeds this season?
But where does CBC HD fall in to the fees area? it's free to air and some cable systems in boarder areas have CBC SD, some even have CBC HD but in all it part of basic / clear qam.
yeah logo message was dumb it implied blacked out. realized what was going on and forgot to delete the response
BTW - the PQ on the MSG HD channels was as good as NESN (in other words, excellent). Nice!
Unfortunately the ROOT presentation of the Pen's game on NHL Network wasn't nearly as good - colors washed out and fuzzy compared to the MSGHD/TSNHD games. (ROOT is owned by DirecTV)
It's still is part of fox sports net and they may still be on that master control BS.
MSG and NESN have always had the best HD picture.
and as much as I hate to admit it the Comcast sports nets (Sharks/Hawks/Caps) are quite good as well ...
Both were in HD for me, too. Rangers fan here--but who also enjoys RJ on the Sabres broadcasts, Howie Rose on the Islanders broadcasts, and, when he was still there, Doc Emrick on the Devils broadcasts--so here's hoping I'll get the MSG HD Rangers broadcast tomorrow. I haven't gotten Rangers games in HD in the past since I am "privileged" to live in the outer ring of Rangers territory, which meant the HD broadcast was still withheld from me, even when others, outside of Rangers territory, were finally given the MSG HD feeds of Rangers games. I would really like it if didn't have to suffer through MSG's SD broadcasts of Rangers games anymore.
OK - so hopefully good news.
As I'm in the NYC area, I get the Isles/Devils/Strangers through regular MSG, not CI, so haven't been able to check those. Hopefully channel 638-1 will be active for the game tonight!!
