Will DirecTV ship me a HR44 to replace a defective HR34?

I need to replace my two year old HR34 and am wondering if DirecTV is only sending out HR44s now or if there is still a chance I might get a HR34, which is definitely not what I want. Otherwise, I'll just have to schedule a service appointment and hope they come with a HR44.

    Thanks!

I recently called to upgrade to a wireless Mini Genie. I asked about upgrading to a HR44 at the same time. The CSR couldn't do it but put in the notes that I wanted to talk to the installer about a HR44. When the installer came I asked about a upgrade. He said there was no difference between a 34 and 44. I told him I had read on the internet was a lot of difference in speed and I wanted the wireless internet connection. He reset the vram on the HR34 to try and speed it up and then said you won't be happy unless you get a HR44? I said yes, and he went out to the truck and got one. YMMV

As far as I have seen on here the Genie is just like all the other receivers when it comes to getting a replacement over the phone. If you order a replacment genie you could get an HR34 or an HR44, whichever is on the top of the stack at the warehouse they ship it from.

However, quite a few techs around here have posted that they are only getting HR44s now, and that should be all that the techs have on their trucks. So if you have a tech come to replace it there should be a very high chance that you will get an HR44.

and as someone posted several weeks ago, the number of 34s returning to DirecTV are going to be refurbished and then shipping back to customer's as replacements.

So you will probably have a better chance of getting a 44 from an installer.

Ordered up a Genie mini last week, also asked about getting a HR44 to replace my slow clunky HR34.
She said to talk to the installer, they should have them on the truck.
Guy came the next day, with the mini, and after I asked if I could swap out to a 44 because of a couple "issues" with the 34, he stopped me saying no problem, I'll bring one in from my truck.
    Easy as pie.
    Much better receiver and remote.

Could you elaborate on why the receiver is better. Are you saying the RF is more responsive on the 44 because the RF on my 34 sucks.

    Jackson . . . Give him a $20 on the way out.

    Tip your installer!!

Edit: You might get more if you tip up front.

Those of you who were successful in getting a HR44 as a replacement for the HR34, do you know if this renewed your contract?

Replacing a defective DVR with a similar functionality model should not trigger any contract extension.

If its being replaced as defective, it shouldnt start or extend a commitment. If you call and say you want your 34 replaced because you want the newest equipment, then yes it should extend your commitment.

I've actually wondered, would that actually be enough to sway an installer, particularly if you don't live out in the middle of nowhere? I've seen some suggest Mr. Grant. Mr. Franklin rarely graces my door in general, so there is a limit :)

Around here, I doubt the installers clear $20 on a single job. They welcome Jacksons. (and sitting in the truck while I install.

The better of "friends" you hang out" with, the more notoriety will get you around the office. A "grant" may get an extra receiver replaced, however a Franklin will def get ALL of the older receivers replaced with newer models.
