My HD locals for Des Moins were added a couple of weeks ago. Since they are currently on 61.5 I need to get another dish installed.

Is it likely that my locals will stay on 61.5? I don't want to add a dish and find out that I subsequently don't need it.

Read about Eastern Arc. Yes, they probably are there to stay for the forseeable future.

That they put them on 61.5 tells me E* is getting smarter. 129 in the midwest has signal strength problems for many customers. E* finally mirrored the HD locals from Chicago on 61.5. Now if they would just re-program our receivers to make 61.5 the default I'd have far fewer problems with rain fade.

If everything works out 129°'s signal problems will be gone within the next two months.

I managed to make 61.5° my primary by disconnecting 129°. Unless your locals are exclusively on 129° (Chicago HD locals are on both) it shouldn't cause any problems.

Up until last week I had dishes pointed at both 61.5 and 129 (both were dish 500s with an "I" adapter). It seems like there was no rhyme or reason why my receivers would pick 61.5 instead of 129 or 129 instead of 61.5 for the HD (national) channels. I tried swapping inputs on my DPP-44 (61.5 on port 3, 129 on port 4) but it did not make a difference. When I changed channels I sometimes pressed info (twice) to see which satellite I was on. Sometimes I was on 61.5 but most of the time I was on 129. Since then I have moved my 61.5 dish to the 77 degree satellite (where my HD locals will be next week) so, now, all my HD national channels come from 129. My signal strength is very good on 129 with a dish 500. With a 1000.2 dish I was always having problems with 129 no matter how well I peaked the dish.

I agree that they need to allow the subscriber to set a "satellite priority" for those who can get their channels from two different satellite slots.

In Little Rock they just put our locals (HD and MPEG4 SD) on 77w. Why would they do that instead of 61.5 if Iowa (at the same longitude as Arkansas) is on 61.5 along with Chicago, which is even further east?
