I have never undetstood why one would want a phone number/name blopping up on their TV screen every time the phone rings. Especially after paying for an HDTV and an HD DVR. Cordless Caller ID phones are cheap and plenty.

Because you could be in the basement watching a loud movie and your neighbor is trying to call, to let you know your house is on fire upstairs might be a good example. Also I have not found a caller ID add on with component video jacks as my receiver has. Hope I was able to answer your questions.

It will not be Tivo based, but based on the software of the new DirecTV DVR's like the R-15.

More info for those interested in a breif article here:

Well, I was going to post the URL ... but I'm too wet behind the ear apparently. So go to the site in my sig (weird, I can put a URL there) and find 'CES - Day 3' under the Articles section. Once I have 5 posts, I'll re-edit this post to include the URL instead of nav. instructions.

    Simply put:
    - CallerID: yes
    - Buffer: 90 minutes
    - Record time 200/50 hours (SD/HD)

The record times for HD will increase a bit with the move to MPEG-4, since that is a more efficient encoding mechanism.

    Enjoy,

    - Shane

    Don't you mean 200/50 Hours? :D

But it is more like 200/50/30 Hours (SD/MPEG-4 HD/MPEG-2 HD)

According to the initial reports... but as always, recording times on DVRs are just approximates.

Hey - your SIG says "HR20-250" - how is that possible... Something you're not telling us Earl? Or a simple typo.
