    Hi folks,

Did a search but didn't see anyone else talking about this. Wondering if it's just us up here in the Cleveland area.

We've only had Dish (through Windstream) for a few months. The other day I finally finished wiring up a phone line to connect to the box to allow us to get PPV easily. We're flipping through the movies and my wife jokingly says, "What, no porn?" We laugh and go about our lives.

A couple days later I see a commercial for something that is very clearly porn, very clearly on the Dish network. But the channel doesn't appear to exist. This strikes us as odd, so my wife calls up Windstream. "Hey, we just saw an ad for some Jenna Jameson something or other that's telling us to turn to a channel that doesn't appear to exist. What's up with that?"

"Oh," they say, "We don't allow adult programming on Windstream."

Er, OK. Not a big deal, certainly, though the idea of my TV provider deciding what I am allowed to watch creeped me out a little.

But then today, I happened to see something about Dish offering Sports Time Ohio in HD. Now this is something I do care about, especially with the Indians in legitimate contention this year. So I flip to the channel. (381?) And there's nothing there. Not even under "All channels."

Anyone know if Windstream picks and chooses what other channels they allow through? Are they slow in updating their databases when Dish puts up new channels or something? Or am I missing some step I need to get this newish channel? I'm on a VIP622 if that makes a difference.

Thanks for any help anyone can offer.

    Best,
    -j.

I would suggest that you call Windstream and cancel your subscription with them. Then call E* and sign up as a new subscriber. Then you should get the channels that you are interested in.

Actually Dish itself only offers the mildest adult programming to Ohio residents. There seems to be some belief that state law prohibits that sort of thing. Strange but true. I doubt I would ever order that stuff, but I still rather resent being told I can't have it...

Once a DISH customer only , you could always "move" to an area that does allow Adult content. That is the plus with Satellite.

What orbital locations are you hooked up to. 381 may be on the other HD satellite.

Whoah. That is weird. When I first got Dish I spent a considerable monthly sum on adult PPV. (They still had Private--no Club Jenna, Fresh, etc.) I didn't know things so explicit could go out over the airwaves. Once I switched to HD, I cut back since there's no adult HD PPV right now. :p

So, channels 480-500 aren't available to you?

Nope. I try to punch in anything in that range and it just jumps to the next nearest number. And if I go under the Locks screen off the main menu and select "Adult" it says "No adult services available" or something like that.

Honestly I couldn't care less about the adult programming -- it's the STOHD that I'm more concerned about. Someone asked which HD sat I'm pointed at. I honestly have no idea; the installer put in two dishes due to the way our house is situated...is there any way for me to check?

Go to System Info screen. Easiest way is to quickly push menu button twice. Two dishes usually means 119/110 along with 61.5 381 is on 129, but it may not be available yet.

Thanks for your help, that appears to be the problem. I have 119, 110, and 61.5. They're sending a guy out on Friday to see what he can do about getting me pointed at the right satellite. Funny thing is, the woman I talked to today said 129 and 61.5 have the exact same programming...except for the extra HD channels on 129. I don't understand why, if the programming is duplicated otherwise, it wouldn't be duplicated fully. But whatever. Hopefully the trees around my house won't pose a problem. Any idea where 129 is in terms of compass direction?

I live between Cleveland and Akron and have the 61.5 dish along with the standard 110/119 dish. I had the 61.5 dish installed free a couple of years ago when local channels 49 and 61 were on it. The 61.5 dish is pointed very high in the southeast sky. I think, but I,m not sure, the the 129 satellite is very low in the southwest sky from here. Let us know what happens, Sam

If you have 119,110 and 61.5, you should have access to ALL US national channels provided by Dish.

Right -- but the channel I'm interested in is Sports Time Ohio, a regional sports network. I have the SD version, but apparently the HD version is on 129. :/

Sports time Ohio, SD version, channel 431, is on the 119 satellite.

Yeah, it sucks - I talked the installer into not using a D1000 to give me 110/119/129 and instead give me a wing dish for 61.5 because of the low signal levels and line of sight issues for 129 and now they have my (FSN Cincinnati and FSN South) only on 129. I haven't called them yet to see if they'll do anything or not, I'm trying to be patient (the Reds stink so bad that the SD version of them is sufficient at this time. :p ) and see if they'll echo it on 61.5 but when College Hoops season rolls around I'm gonna have to do something.

I had 'em come out and switch my 61.5 dish to 129 when STO was first aired in HD. 129 is low on the horizon in the southwestern sky.

I'll probably try it but the reports of poor signal levels from 129 make me worry I'll lose most of my HD every time there is a good storm coming in (they usually come in from the SW here). I'm also concerned that with the location of the wing dish it will be pointing at the back of the main dish when it's swung over to see 129. It's also 95-100 degrees here so I'm not REAL anxious to get on the roof. :)

It may also require a different LNB - which you probably don't have right now.

I've never heard of anyone having to switch the LNB to change from 61.5 to 129, why would it need to be different???

OK here's the deal. Windstream has a deal with Dish. They do not want their customers to be able to view porn or "adult programming" so Dish puts an adult hide on the receivers on such accounts.

The customer in questions should not call Windstream to cancel their service. They need to call Windstream and request they are debundled. If they cancel their service with Dish through Windstream entirely they will have to wait six months to restore their services (if it is not caught relatively soon thereafter, there are some exceptions but they are confidential to the public but available to the customer if they call in and ask).

In the case of you missing a sports channel in that range, you should be getting that channel if you subscribe to the top 100PLUS or higher... if you're not getting them call E* for assistance.
