The drive is discovered when I connected to my Mac via USB. How much is a new esata cable and is the one that comes with the kit reliable?

Might be the cable. Try a SIIG eSATA to eSATA jumper cable from Monoprice or Summit Source. They all seem to work. If that doesn't work you might want to return the Cav and get a different model. I've never tried that model number. Or just swap that one for another one and see if that works. Again, Cavalry is not the finest eSATA.

Ah, they finally started selling them. They should be introducing the 2TB Constellation hard drive in a month or two. Wonder if they will put that in the Showcase enclosure?

In post #823 there is a link to Seagate's site and the new 1TB Showcase. That would be a good thing to buy if you don't get the Cavalry problem solved. They will be cheaper on other sites soon.

Got another sata cable and will try tomorrow to see if it's connecting to the drive. If that doesn't work, sending back to Amazon.

I just installed an ESATA Seagate Showcase 1 TB drive on my HR20-700. I ordered the drive directly from Seagate as I could not find it available anywhere else. The setup was a breeze as I simply unplugged my HR20 and attached the drive using the ESATA cable. I then plugged the ESATA drive in and then plugged the HR20 back in. The HR20 then formatted the drive and I was ready to go. I then reset my settings on the HR20 such as the ability to play 1080p and a few other settings.

So far I really like the Seagate as it is whisper quiet. It also has a power switch on the back that includes a dimmer switch for the front LED. I put the switch in the dimmer mode and the light is barely noticeable with the lights off. The light is blue and matches the HR20. The box is silver and is attractive. The Seagate can be used either vertically or horizontally. I am using the drive vertically using the vertical stand that came with the drive. The drive also comes with a short ESATA cable.

Does anyone know how I can display the available drive space in MG using the HR20 menu?

You can only use the meter on the Playlist, as far as I know.

Okay. I just picked up a new Esata cable and attempted to source the Cavalry to my HR. Still is sourcing the internal. Confirmed I could connect to the External via USB on my MAC and PC. Should I just exchange through Amazon? Could it be a part Esata port on the external? I realized that the manual and CD were not included in the packaging

Do I need to have a certain firmware or software on my HR20-700 for the esata?

Try your eSATA cable on your PC/Mac, just buy cheap dongle with a bracket and eSATA connector for a few bucks.

They are pre-formatted I believe. The HR reformats them when the HR recognizes them.

Links to these things would be good, no? I just put one of those drives in a 20-700 that I "own" and it's working OK. I had called Seagate before I bought it and they assured me that the drives were all fixed now. Only drives made last December were bad.

I just added an Antec MX-1 with a WD 2TB drive to all 3 DVRs (HR-22). Works like a champ. No issues (so far!)

Whoa! You bought three of those $300 hard drives? Wow! Saw some posts doubting that the Antec would work with a 2TB drive, glad to see that they do work. Good luck. Let us know how you're making out from time to time.

Yes. It was a chunk of change, but I figured what the heck. I am moving from 3 TiVo S3 HD that I added 1TB drives to. I am used to keeping stuff.

I had to go to BB the other day and they were selling them for $299. I want one, but I'll wait awhile. I think they are selling on WD's site for $280.
