Or Google the model number. Or go to Amazon and read the reviews. Something that actually leads to a conclusion.

We don't know how WD make the retail IDs - they're not obligate to include particular model of HDD in such packaging (that's a beauty of marketing).

This implies it's an EADS if you look at the pictures included and the review. Uses same box picture as BestBuy.com but, .... :)

I know it's an EADS. Did you read the reviews on Amazon? Did you visit the WD site and check there?

Now look at this link from NewEgg. Theres an EADS that's even cheaper.

I know what the EVDS is and you know perfectly well that I know. The person who posted requested an answer to his question and I answered it. The HDD in question was an EADS and will function well in any HR.

You missed whole point initially - there is no definitive conclusion without taking the box in your hand - look at post#1483.
And it was a reminder he could use better AV drive.

I didn't miss the point. I just cross referenced the WD20000CSRTL drive and came up with WD20EADS, which I knew already. There is no need to go find a box and look at the bottom. You can do this on your computer. Do you understand that? That's the question that was asked and I gave the correct answer.

He didn't ask for the "better" AV drive, he asked what a WD20000CSRTL was and I answered him correctly without having to drive to a store and look at the box. I've answered this question several times before the EVDS came out and several time after the EVDS came out. And I know the EVDS is the preferred HDD for DVRs and you know I know.

Wise choice. Nothing wrong with the EADS tho. I've got two in two 20-700s and they work as well as my EVDS drives. So far. We'll have to wait and see if they last as long as the EVDS drives. Other than that, I don't see any difference.

So Fry's has the 2 tb wd evds for 109 right now if anyone is looking... Bare drive, but I doubt that bothers anyone here.

I saw the ad, but it wasn't clear which one; they named it as "AV-GP" (audio/video green power), but a few different lines fit under that umbrella.

Cross reference the product number 6298510 from here

    http://shopping.dallasnews.com/ROP/ads.aspx?advid=2519&adid=9976596&subid=31471267&type=

to frys.com and it shows WESTERN DIGITAL 2TB AV GREEN POWER SERIAL ATA/300 32MB BUFFER HARD DRIVE - WD20EVDS

    http://www.frys.com/product/6298510?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG

Never had this method fail for me, except of course when it's a store only item :)

That's good idea to check Fry's site for the model name. If it's there. ;)

I wandered in there without knowing about sale price and got one on Friday and picked up an Antec MX-1 enclosure. I think I saw an expiration date of 10/14/10 for that price.
