DISH Network’s DVR scheduling service, which we launched in May, now offers remote scheduling via satellite. As you might recall, when DISH Remote Access came out, it worked for customers who had their ViP HD DVR receiver connected to broadband. Now we’re offering satellite-based timers, which let customers schedule a recording via the satellite antenna – without having their receiver connected to the Internet.

This new feature allows significantly more DISH customers access to remote scheduling, as it not only works with our ViP HD DVR suite of receivers, but also our 522 and 625 standard definition DVRs.

Something to keep in mind: satellite timers are one-way communication, so naturally the capabilities are a bit more limited. While customers cannot fully access and manage their DVRs like they can via a broadband connection, they can make new recording requests, which is one of the most popular features of DISH Remote Access.

Using DVR to record interfering with OTA tuner?

Has anyone else had a problem with cross-interference when watching/recording from OTA receiver and recording from a satellite receiver simultaneously?

Has anyone else had a problem with cross-interference when watching/recording from OTA receiver and recording from a satellite receiver simultaneously?

The first time it happened, I thought it was a fluke because it also seemed to involve the satellite reception as well.

I have SD locals on 129, as well as an antenna, going into my 722. That way, when the satellite reception tanks, I can still record or watch locals off the antenna, which is often flawless.

One night not long ago, I was watching a show on a local channel, and a show on another channel from 110 or 119 started to record. The picture on my locals on both the other satellite receiver and the OTA receiver became choppy and pixellated, and then I began to get signal loss.

I chalked it up to bad reception, though the weather was OK.

It happened again on Sunday night. We tuned in to 60 Minutes on the OTA receiver to make sure it was on time (no football overtime), and watched for a few minutes - flawless. Signal strength was high 90s to 100. So, at 8, the Simpsons began to record from the satellite receiver while The Amazing Race began recording from the OTA receiver.

Later when we went to watch TAR, it was unwatchable. It went from great signal to pixellation and dropouts over a span of seconds.

I have also seen another bizarre interference - when watching a previously recorded show, I started to get pixellation in the recorded version when there was bad reception on satellite locals. The reason I know is that I started watching a live show, but could not because of poor signal. Switched to a recorded show and began to get pixellation and dropout messages. However, that show was recorded days earlier on a premium channel that never drops out, and was fine when the same parts were watched later!

I am starting to think any problems I have had with OTA reception (bouncing from signals in high 80s or 90s to 0 and back) might be due to satellite reception cross-interference....

I am trying to do a very temporary setup.

I have a legacy Dish 500 dish with the old Dish 500 LNBF.

We are going to try to setup a Dish 301 receiver for just one day - this Saturday to receive one channel (in regular old SD), thus I am only interested in TP-21 on E*11 @110.

Can we use the old Dish 500 LNBF with the 301 or do we need a dishpro LNBF? Do we need to use the SW21's with the old Dish 500?

Sorry for the odd questions, but it has been a long time since I used Dish Network.

Thanks,

I used to disable automatic updates on the 625 because I work completely random hours and also because I don't like the idea of something automatically updating itself without me knowing exactly what it's doing and when. The fact that most of Dish's updates degrade the service and device didn't help those feelings.

Now it seems the ability to disable automatic updates has been removed. I can still set a time, which is useless in my case, but can't completely disable it. Not only that but when it does go to shutdown for the update it pops up the cancel box for only a few seconds, so if you blink you miss it. Also I've experienced crashes shortly after canceling the shutdown many times.

Then you have times like last night; I set an alarm to go off at 3 AM to remind me to look at the television for the shutdown dialog. 3 AM came and went with no dialog popping up. Instead the red record light came on to record a stupid advertisement for NBA League Pass. The shutdown time was automatically moved to 4 AM instead; luckily I was looking at the screen the few seconds the shutdown box came up at the new time.

Does anyone know a way around this, or at least have similar complaints?

Thanks.

5 year customer, 4tv setup. Last Thursday we finally decided to get HD, called Dish and arranged to have the install done Monday 8-12. Sunday evening we received the recorded appointment message and everything in set, sound good so far?

Well it’s Monday and we wait, and we wait and at 12:30 decide to call Dish and find out what was happening. Their phone system tells us that we have a service appointment for Friday! At his point I am not happy, how can we get an automated call 14 hours before a rescheduled appointment but no notice of the reschedule?

I call, and use the magic words “cancel” and “service” and get right through to the loyalty dept. The agent pulls up the log and says “our system shows you rescheduled this morning at 7am”. I state that I did not reschedule and ask him who did? The agent says “the log says you did”. I asked for the phone number that was identified on the inbound call so we can track this down … The next ten minutes was a circular discussion that ends up with the conclusion that as there is no password on my account so ANYBODY could have done this. At this point I am fit to be tied and convey in no uncertain terms my displeasure regarding this apparent lax security.

A password is not the default setup, there is one on the account now.

Sorry this is so long winded, the main reason I wanted to write this is to find out if :-

a, I am the only one that did not have a password on my account?

b, Has anything like this happened to anyone else?

Thanks for reading my rant; I did move the Friday appointment to Tuesday so I should be HD by tomorrow afternoon.:)
