Thing is to get HD on my R22 I (ofcourse) had to buy a HD receiver from D* and then set up an install. My question is this. Will the installer believe me when I request to have the H?? HD receiver installed on an SD TV and the my R22 turned into an HD receiver? How do I get the installer to go along with this? I've had some installers say the the R22 is SD only some say it can go HD. Any ideas?!

We are getting ready to move to a new house here soon. I am just curious about something before I schedule the movers install date. I am in the Traverse City - Cadillac area in Michigan so my locals are MPEG4 now soon to be switched over permanently. I already had everything swapped for MPEG4 a while back so I now have one R22-100 and three H21-200s.

I would like to add a second DVR to our account when we move. It would go into my room so I would deactivate one of the H21s. I am hoping I can get it for just the shipping charge like on the commercial. I know the commercial says HD receiver or DVR upgrade. I really just need an SD DVR but they dont install them in this area anymore. I am just wondering if the movers connection is different in this area now that all receivers need to be MPEG4 capable. We really have no need for HD ATM but will add HD access as soon as we get an HDTV.

I know I wont know for sure till I schedule the install appointment for the move. I am on here frequently so I just thought that I would post here to see if anyone knows how this would work. I have no problem with another 2 year agreement. I also wouldn't mind having a few movie channels for the 3 months either .

the trees in the front of the house might get in the way of the singal.
but lets say they are not, and I would prefer the dish on the garage. How much of a 'custom' install is it really? the cable run is longer.

Not trying to come off rude. But the amout of work overall is the same, garage sits lower, so it would be easier to mount.

If anyone here was doing it, how much over a 'free' install would that cost.

(would be trying to get a swm system, 2 hd-dvrs, 1 regular reciver)
I would also like to continue using my 2 older receivers as well. Is this possible with the Slimline dish?

I recently had DirecTV installed and it is working fine. But I noticed that the LNB of my dish is not "inline" with the long axis of my Slimline dish. Shouldn't it be centered for best possible signal reception? The angle of the LNB support arm does have some adjustability. I'd estimate that the positioning of my LNB is 4 inches lower then the central axis. Does anyone know the proper alignment for the LNB with the actual dish? Thanks.

Hi all, I was wondering if someone could tell me what type of dish is a slimline dish how many LNB's does it have and What type of multi-switch does it come with (if any). The reason I am asking is because my mom and I share the same dish and she needs to have access to 119 and 110 for the Spanish programing. And I want to have access to the HD brids and a DVR for on demand. So right now we are using 3 outputs on the dish and I only have one left.

I live in north/central Indiana. I am in a wooded neighborhood, so LOS is a little difficult but doable for what I have now.

I have a Channel Master Gain Master DIRECTV Triple LNB at this time. It is mounted on the roof of my gazebo 125' away from my Terk BMS-58 5x8 Satellite Multiswitch. I am using at the moment 2) D10 receivers & 2) r15-100 dvr receivers.

I have very good signal strengths for 101 and 110, but 119 (my local's) not so good when leafs are on the trees and the wind blows hard.

Directv says that to go to HD, a new dish would have to be installed, and that it would have to be done by one of there installers.

My last experience with one of there installers back in about 2005:

I wanted to start getting my locals from Satellite, already had basic. When I showed him where my existing dish was, he said he would not be willing to go up there, and that the house roof would work just fine. Seemed silly to me, but what do I know, so I let him do his install. When he finished the house roof install, he had everything except the locals. He told me to call Directv and tell them NO LOS for my local's, and they would take it off my bill, (that would have been fine if I could have been allowed the national channels instead, but I was told "NO" by Directv). I tried to explain, from the beginning, that the install was only so that I could get the locals, That my single LNB that was on the gazebo roof already had everything that he was getting. I was told simply to live with it (nicer than that though) and he packed up and left. Determined to prove him wrong, the next day I removed the dish from my house roof, placed it on my mount already on the gazebo, and proceeded to dial in the dish. With a mini monitor and receiver up on the roof with me, I was able to get everything, including locals! And now, 4 years later, and a switch to the bigger Gain Master dish (for problems when it would rain or snow) I still have everything.

My line of site is better towards the 101 than the 119. I might even have a better location, if 119 wasn't very important, but I don't know what channels are on this Sat. If I could use 2 dishes and combine them, then I could have really good LOS.

So my question is, if I can get 101, 110 and 119 already, should I be able to get the other Satellites with a new dish? What dish is it that I would be getting from Directv? And would my existing receivers work with the new dish or do I have to replace them all? (I only have 2 TV's that are HD, and the other 2 are SD).

Thanks in advance for any advice. And sorry for being a little long-winded.

I'm getting ready to install an OTA antenna at my place and need to be able to split the signal to go to different rooms. I was wondering if the SWS-8 would be acceptable to use for this? If not can anyone recommend a good splitter. I need at least 6 outputs. I assume I should use a terminator at any unused ports for the OTA splitter correct?

Also, I am currently using another SWS-8 with my DirecTV SWM setup. I have it wired to 6 wall outlets throughout the house and have the other two outputs terminated at the splitter. However two of the outlets are not being used so I just put a terminator at the outlet itself. Is this acceptable or should I disconnect the cable run and move the terminators to the splitter? Should I replace the SWS-8 with a SWS-4 since I'm really only using 4 outputs right now?

That being said, I hoping that regardless of where I end up (I expect to be in a newer house) that I can utilize the RG6, and hoping there is a central point where they all converge, regardless of previous owner's cable / sat setup. If I want to swap out the LNB on my current Slimline, do I want one of these:
Into one of these:
As always, any assistance is appreciated.
I have an exterior weatherproof box. Is there any downside to mounting a ground block in that box on the outside of the house. It may be overkill, but I thought any weather protection couldn't hurt. Still going to include service loops. Also planning on dielectric grease on connections.
The new HD receiver works great. The problem is that I've got 2 Directivo units (both R10) but only 1 of them was able to autodetect the multiswitch and pick up the 72.5 satellite. The installer had to run the autodetect several times before it recognized the Zinwell multiswitch and 72.5 satellite. He told me to keep running the autodetect on the other receiver until it eventually comes in. Its now Tuesday and I keep running the autodetect with no luck. I even hooked it up to the same wire that the other receiver was on when it recognized the multiswitch. Anybody got any ideas?

Can someone point me to an official DirecTV spec sheet for the SWMLine 3 dish ? I am particularly interested in the published "Operating Temperatures" range.

I currently have one mounted to the side of my chimney with my condo associations approval. Now my condo association is threatening to relocate my dish to a pole that will place the dish and the LNB directly ABOVE the vent on my chimney outlet and next to the vent of my neighbors chimney. Smart huh ?

The Fire Marshall says that it would not violate fire codes as the plastic lnb and cabling are not considered combustable for code purposes as they are "self extinguishing".

However he offered that he has heard stories of soot buildup effecting reception.

I also believe it would place the LNB/SWM well outside of it's published and intended operating environment, and void the warrantee as such.

Thanks Guys !!!
