Are they still giving out H20's for new installs?

I just signed my dad up for service and he gets installed tomorrow with 2 HD DVR's and a HD Rcvr.....are they still giving out H20's for new installs? I hope not (I got 2 when I signed up in 2008 ) I hope he'll get a H21 or H23 tomorrow for MRV sake

About a month ago I got a H23. Maybe I was just lucky.

Yes, it can happen, but it's very unlikely at this point. A big portion of the H20s were H20-600s, and they had power supplies that were too small for the job and would overheat and cook the receiver and (especially) the smart card. The H20-600 models are being disposed of instead of being remanufactured (local warehouses are directed NOT to return them).

This is the same thing I was told when DirecTV swapped out my broken H20 for an H23. The tech said they are sending them to an e-waste recycler.

I have an H20 that can no longer pick up OTA signals. I know the OTA signal is good because when I connect the OTA directly to the TV it works fine. I have the PP. Would they replace it with an H23 plus a AM21 if I mention that I want the OTA to work? I am actually thinking of waiting until the H24 is out before reporting this issue to the PP department in hopes to get a H24.

I expanded to another room two months ago and they sent me a refurbished HR20.

Which manufacturer is your H20 (e.g. H20-600, H20-xxx)?

If it's not working for OTA anymore they'll likely replace it. However, you'll probably need an AM21 for OTA since the H21 & H23 do not have OTA.

DirecTV currently has a stock of refurb H20's for folks in your situation. They are NOT giving away AM21s. While a few AM21s were given to owners of HR10-250s (who paid as much as $999 for those) who were upgraded to HR21's and needed OTA, that practice has been discontinued, and DirecTV's current policy is that if you want an AM21, you have to pay, period.
