Style Network

My wife's really into the Style Network, and I didn't realize it wasn't on D*. Does anyone have any idea when it might be added to the lineup?

Basically, your only hope is to e-mail or call D* and request that they add it.

We had it on Dish. We switched to Direct 2 years ago. Style was one of my daughters favorite stations. Lets just say she wasn't happy. I have emailed both Style and Direct. Nothing from Style. Direct told me that E! and Fine Living were similar....So basically no.

DirecTV rep -- via Customer Service -- is in no position to say, "no." The standard-issue response is, "we'll make note of your channel request."

DirecTV has known for years that there are subscribers wanting E! Entertainment Television spinoff Style Network. DirecTV has chosen not to add it, for reasons DirecTV is not going to openly discuss or mention.

No New Channels

I have talked with retention last week and they told me that there will be no additions to the SD linup this calandar year. When a station dissapears like what happened to PBSU they must replace it with a religious network per FCC guidelines. They realize 75% of the DTV population delete tese stations from their favorites but their hands are tied.

I've come across here at dbstalk.com in a previous year a statement like the one you've made: "[DirecTV] told me that there will be no additions to the [Standard Definition] lineup this calendar year."

It doesn't mean anything, because an addition can happen whenever DirecTV does make the decision to add a channel. For example, we received Logo last June. And I recall that, prior to such addition, "no new channel additions were being added to DirecTV in Standard Definition for 2005."

That's 100% BS as it has already been confirmed that Sleuth is going to be added this spring, along with SportsNet New York.

For a year is no additions in 2005 DirecTV got TV One, ESPN U, Logo, Fox Reality and Lifetime Real Women.

BTW - Teknophyle, a public interest channel has to be replaced with another qualifying public interest channel. Public interest doesn't equal religious only. CSPAN, NASA TV and RFD TV are public interest and not religious.

Style is owned by Comcast IIRC, and so therefore D* will carry it when they carry Sportsnet Philly, which is never.

Comcast only has part ownership of Style (Disney has the remainder), and this split is also visible in E!, which D* carries.

Comcast also owns G4, OLN, and The Golf Channel, all of which are carried by D*.

The ONLY reason CSN Philly isn't carried by D* (or E*) is because in that particular case, Comcast is using the terrestrial loophole to prevent it.

Sportsnet NY has not been confirmed (although I hope it is soon, it launches on my birthday and I'm a huge Mets fan)...

I have two e-mails from two D* reps saying they do not have a carriage deal, and I know someone who called SNY's corporate offices in NY and was told that there is no carriage agreement right now with D*. They hope to have one soon but there isn't one yet.

If you've got contradictory information, by all means give me a link (you'd make my day if you do)...

Yeah, after that Mushnick column was when one of my fellow Met fans and D* subs called SNY's corporate office to confirm it - there was no agreement at that point.

70% of E! is owned by Comcast. I'd suppose that is also with Style. Roughly, 70% of CCSN-Philadelphia is also owned by Comcast, the rest is owned by the Phillies. Comcast however controls both channels.

If Disney owned over 50% of Style, Disney would have forced it on DirecTV. I wouldn't be suprised if DirecTV is choosing against Style, based on company [Comcast] ownership.

The popular sports related channels - DirecTV has to carry them. It's practically in their corporate mission. They have the ace with NFL Sunday Ticket - they can not be lacking the like of NHL games from OLN, etc. Granted, they are locked out of CCSN Philly. G4 was also an inherited channel agreement, originally ZDTV.

And, I think Echostar (Dish) is unhappy with OLN's company ownership (though more over the sheer pricing to the amount they (Dish) thinks the channel should go for), but Dish is using a more prominent (expensive) channel to do without.

Now all we need is MTV Jams and MTV Hits (the only two MTV channels that actually show music videos 24/7)...

Probably not, Style get really, really low ratings. I'm talking G4 low. Style may be added when they add more bandwidth, but right now it is not a crucial channel to add.

Directv has a feedback called "direct from you" as part of the software the agents use. A section of "direct from you" has a customer feedback with specific channel request, and a place to make a note. It doesn't stay on your account, so I always had to to note the account as well that the customer made the request.

I will have to check the website ( I just recently registered, as Directv had some problem letting me register when switching my account type from employee to just a regular customer type) but I would think there is a similar feedback online.

If you do call, say "hey, this is direct from me, please put in my request for the Style channel" or whatever channel you want...I would LOVE to have the Style channel, I miss it!
