What do they show on this channel. Is it like hdnet movies?

How can you argue with this:

Sugar Hill

When her fiancee is beaten to death by some underworld thugs, Diana 'Sugar' Hill uses voodoo to create an army of zombies who seek revenge against the Mob.

I believe the first movie this morning was the stereotypical Spaghetti Western...filmed in Italian, dubbed in English. I think it was just the dubbing, not the channel.

here's to hoping Flash Gordon is OAR. I recorded it from HDNM a month ago or so, but I would love to have it in MPEG-4 instead. I never bought the recent anamoprhic DVD, so I only have the old letterboxed one. Figured that was ok as long as I saved it on the HR20.

This is the one channel that I was hoping for since there is a lot of older flicks I'd love to see in HD. This morning's showing was very kewl! Too bad that I couldn't stay home today to watch it all day. I thought the PQ was pretty good, not Discovery HD Theater/Smithsonian Channel HD good, but close. Perhaps it'll be better with newer content. I think this will be one of my favorite channels to be glued to.

I only had a chance to look at it for a few minutes this morning over breakfast but it looked and sounded good. Bring on the James Bond films (I understand Goldfinger and Dr. No are coming up soon)!

When I looked this morning I saw a film in its original aspect ratio. Let's hope they all are!

Not too many real popular movies, but being a young guy who hasn't seen a lot of these old 60s/70s movies, I'm looking forward to em.

I did see there are some more popular "mainstream" movies coming up - Hotel Rwanda, The Usual Suspects, Mad Max.

And in OAR.

Yeah, it is tough to judge PQ on a movie channel in a few minutes. Older movies could need restoration, and newer ones could intentionally have been shot on grainy or inferior film stock. It'll take a period of time to really judge it.

Actually, PQ of any channel should be judged on the best source material it ever shows, because otherwise, one is judging the source material, not the channel.

I think it's great that you will be exposed to them but I feel bad for you. Not being sarcastic either -- if you've only sampled movies from the '90s as your primary movie viewing you really haven't been exposed to genuine moviemaking for the most part.

And I do have to correct you: you say they're not "popular" -- that is absolutely NOT the case for a lot of these films. Most of these films were hits in their day and probably still sell well in terms of being catalog titles. A LOT more people have seen them than, say, "Hotel Rwanda" -- just because a movie is "newer" doesn't make it more "popular".

That aside, this channel is just what the doctor ordered as far as I'm concerned. I don't need to see SHREK 24/7 and seeing REAL movies in HD from the '30s thru the '90s is absolutely fantastic. Even better the line-up looks really varied, making it superior to HDNet Movies right off the bat.

Thumbs up!

There is one negative about this channel: a bug on the screen that never goes away.
