Perhaps because this is the RSN for your area? Some RSN's have been in HD via spot beam for the channels normal viewing area.

So as most of us die hard Hawks fans await the resolution decision of whether the Wirtz family will finally bradcast home games, does the HD RSN Chicago mean that I will get all away games on my CI in HD? I do not subscribe to the sports package, just Center Ice.

Those of us in the outer Chicagoland suburbs (i.e., Atlanta) can get it now, where we couldn't before.... (I grew up in Gary watching Jack Brickhouse, so I, too, am a die-hard "Northsider")

If you had been receiving...

Comcast SportsNet Chicago HD (Channel 640)
Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic HD (Channel 629)
New England Sports Network/NESN HD(Channel 623)
SportsNet New York HD (Channel 625)

...in MPEG2 on your HR10/H10, will you lose it now?

I also had this channel on 640 from the get-go, but I'm confused now, because the channel that was in my favorites (CSCH) is now on 680, while a new version of the same channel (CSNCHD) is now on 640. I assume the 680 version is a spot beam while the new 640 is CONUS, but does anyone know if they're both MPEG4? Just trying to figure out if I should favor one or the other in my favorites...

I guess a side question would be this: I saw the games on the old 640, will I still seem them on the new 640, or will I have to change to 680? Wondering, since the new 640 is a national feed, if they'll black them out...

So are all Hawks games in HD?

I've gotten CSN-Chicago for the last few years IN ADDITION to FSN-North, I guess because I'm halfway between Minneapolis and Chicago? Anyways, I never got CSN-Chicago in HD like a lot of you more local guys seem to have. I see Sportsrise is in HD, though I can't stand watching it because all they talk about is Cubs and Bears.

I live in Iowa and Comcast Chicago is my local RSN but I've never been able to get the HD version of the station so I'm quite happy about this! Bulls, Cubs, White Sox (maybe Blackhawks?) in HD now...sweet!

Well, "wait till next year" is pretty well ingrained into a Cubs fan.

We'll watch the playoffs and series on HD this fall.
We'll finally be able to watch the World Champion Cubs in HD on CSN next year. Now if WGN Superstation will also expand their coverage to HD things will be great.

Living in the Chicago area, I have had this channel in HD ever since I got my HR20 last December. If I remember correctly, last season there were about 3-5 Blackhawk games that were broadcast in HD. Comcast made a pretty big deal about it each time. Unfortunately the quality wasn't very high. The games on HDNet were MUCH better (but Blackhawk games on HDNet are blacked out to me).

So, hopefully this will be better quality and more frequency of HD broadcasts.

I don't know about the others, but I never received 640 on my HR10. It was broadcasted in MPEG4 on 103a.

640 is no longer spot-beamed.
It is a national CONUS broadcast now.

It has always been in MPEG-4

I'm confused as to why people are so excited about seeing the cubs or whoever in HD next year. Wouldn't the games be blacked out if you're not in a team's market anyways, except on MLB EI? Basically all you're getting is HD versions of the crappy pre/post game shows and highlight shows, isn't it?

No. I watched many games this year on CSN but it wasn't in HD. Next year it will be.
