Will DirecTV Carry Superstation WGN in HD?
Superstation WGN's FAQ about HD has changed recently:
Q: When will Superstation WGN be available in high definition?
A: Superstation WGN will be available in HD to cable and satellite providers starting in November.
http://wgnsuperstation.trb.com/about.../?track=footer
Is there any information or speculation about DirecTV's intent to provide Channel 307 in HD?
For those who may not know, Superstation WGN's programming is different from WGN's local broadcasts in Chicago.

Other then sporting events...
What other content is on the Superstation that would even be in HD?
As the primetime lineup is not available on the Superstation..
And the re-run block between 5 and 7pm (CT) is not in HD (even though some of those shows do have HD versions)

The only thing I care about is Cubs games. You get them in HD in Chicago. I don't. That's a violation of the Equal Protection clause.

Equal Protection clause?
Do you want access to the games too when they are on WCIU?

Sure. Why not?
Oh, and I forgot the Privileges and Immunities clause.
Somewhat more seriously, the previous version of the FAQ said that an HD version was being considered and that DirecTV had made inquiries about its availability. This provides me with encouragement that at least some of these blatant constitutional violations will be remedied. [I don't expect the WCIU situation to be fixed quite so soon, though.]

No, actually watching the Cubs is a violation of the 8th Amendment's ban on Cruel & Unusual Punishment.

That's only if one were FORCED to watch. If you watch them voluntarily, it's just run-of-the-mill masochism or an obsession that will not die.

Uh, no I wasn't. The White Sox, in case you forgot, are the Chicago team that hasn't had a World Series championship in, what...24 months? (As opposed to 99 years.)

Uh...yes you were. I wasn't talking about years 2-99.
Oh and I was only joking. It wasn't like I was talking about the Bears.
Again just having a little fun.
Next week I plan to start taking life a lot more serious.

I was surprised to see that FAQ response since when I last checked with a contact at WGN they said spring/summer 2008. I asked them today and he said yep the date has been pushed up. The keeper of the $'s decided they needed to move the schedule up and they're waiting for the encoders to be delivered as of that response.

The cubs have not even announced their TV schedule for next year. There is a very good chance that with new ownership they wont have any game on tribune TV(WGN) next year.

Ownership of the Tribune Company has not yet been transferred to Sam Zell. Financial information on the Cubs, with or without Wrigley Field, has not yet been made available to potential buyers, so there have been no bids for the team yet. According to the Tribune, perhaps a dubious source, the sale of the Cubs won't be complete until well into 2008. I don't think there is even a slight chance that WGN won't continue to carry Cubs games next year. If you have a source to support your claim, please provide it.

Sam Zell is on the board of directors. I assure you he is firmly in control. Perhaps next year is too soon but when the cubs are under new ownership the chances they will have any games on WGN is very slim. My source is a member of the executive advisory board of the company were I work. He is a former member of the board of directors of the tribune company and part of John Canning's potential ownership group.
