QVC HD

Wasn't there an ad on their web site that it would be launching this month? Haven't heard anything since. Considering directv was one of the first carriers of qvc and the fact that directv loves shopping channels, you would think they would be one of the first to have it in hd. Please, give me anything, the wife won't stop bugging me about it.

I don't know about an ad, but here's the press release announcing the conversion: QVC to be Part of High-Definition Line-Up

I have no interest in shopping channels, HD or otherwise, but I would bet many people who like to shop but hate sports might hae an opinion that sports channels in HD are a waste of bandwidth. Someone who doesn't pay for premium channels may think premium channels in HD are a waste of bandwidth. It all comes down to what you value ... what you like. There are people who like to shop. The shopping channels like to have viewers who like to shop, and to highlight their products in HD is probably something they think will help sell more of their products. For certain, the shopping channel execs would never think their channels in HD would be a waste of bandwidth.

umm like shopping cant be done in SD? It is a total waste of bandwidth and should not be put on ahead of services most people do watch.

No - sports channels are a waste of bandwidth. No - religious channels are a waste of bandwidth. No - public access channels are ... No - music channels are ... No - premium channels are ...

Where does it end? I already pointed out several segments of the population who woud disagree with you, and the most signigicant being the exectuives at the shopping channels who believe they can sell more if they show it off more.

DIRECTV has the bandwidth to add new channels - and adding QVC HD if or when it becomes available s not going to deprive anyone of other "services".

I don't watch shopping channels but to this remark I think Football HD is a total waste of bandwidth also. Just because one person does not like it does not mean there is not a subscriber base for it.

Drew - I hate to point out the flaw in your logic here. The sad fact of the matter is, shopping channels are a waste of bandwidth, Chuck Norris hates shopping channels, that's all the proof you should need.

Hey that is fine with me if they add an HD shopping channel. I was just thinking qvc hd should be put on later and not ahead of more viewed channels such as abc family etc.

If they do have the extra BW it is ok. The thing is Directv will not add many more popular channels such as HBO Comedy. I have requested that along with many others.

if Chuck Norris hates shopping channesl.... why did he appear on HSN? Did his agent put him up to it?

I think the only HD channels that are wasting bandwidth are the strectch-o-vision HD channels.(History Channel HD, Science HD, TBS HD, for example....)

Have to agree with Drew on this. We all have different likes and wants.

Why people are so against QVC in HD is a mystery to me? Actually using the term sickening because a channel someone doesn't watch will be in HD? If anything, that attitude is what's sickening. Are people really that myopic? Really?

I'd bet that QVC has more viewers each day than abc family.

Making analogies between shopping channels and any other form of channel is rediculious. Every other type of channel, even religious ones, provides valid programming. Home shopping channels are all scams. They are out to cheat people.

"out to cheat people." ??? No more than BestBuy and CircuitCity... not to mention every car dealership in the country....

If Victoria's Secret starts a shopping channel in high-definition, I'm sure nobody will be complaining about wasted bandwidth....

Actually, while I have no use for the overwhelming majority of the shopping channels, I do find QVC to be worthwhile and they do have some good bargains - just don't let anyone know, they'll revoke my man card.

I do get a laugh out of some of the other shopping channels though. The off the mainstream ones with the knife sales, who needs 25 pocket knives for 19.99? But they do come with that cool sword, oooh, must buy. Or the coin shows pimping their non-currency, commemorative coins as collectables. And the art auction, or jewlery - my dad told me that while flipping there was one jewlery channel that was trying to sell some item at $15,000. Really have to wonder about the people who buy some of this stuff....

Yes, I'll bet you. They don't track shopping channel viewers. According to that article, ABC Family had just over 100,000 viewers per day. Those shopping channels can sell 10,000 pieces of jewelry in 30 minutes (and not everyone watching buys).

This might be the most ignorant statement I've read in a long time.

Do you really think that if they were "cheating" people, that they'd still be in business? That people would keep ordering stuff from them over and over? Please, tell me you're joking and that your mind doesn't actually work that way.

This thread is a prime example of people that spout off about issues/topics based on rumor or things they've heard, instead of trying to educate themselves. An example of people that lash out at things that are different or things they don't understand. An example of how evolution is not consistent.

I bought a SHARP LCD HD set from QVC last month & it was DOA, but Sharp replaced the motherboard. This month we bought a heater. DOA.

Beware!

A lot of my meals come from QVC, when I look at the portions that I get compared to what you get at some fancy restaurant, I feel anything but cheated. A lot of my Christmas presents came from HSN (Buffalo Bills clothes) and they’re great. QVC and HSN both do a great job at introducing outside the box type products, that actually work. While Sammy and his one way mind may feel otherwise, QVC is truly a world class operation, and by the amount of business they do, I think it shows. As much as I wasn’t looking forward to it, going to QVC Studio Park last year was one of the best experiences I’ve had recently, it was fun and enjoyable and I’d do it again. I would welcome QVC HD on my TV with open arms
