DISH Settles Retrans Battle at Last Minute

DISH Network had faced yet another retransmission consent dispute, but resolved the skirmish with the station in Wisconsin at the last minute.

WFXS in Wausau said late Tuesday it reached a five-year deal with the DBS service. The original agreement between the broadcaster and small dish offering was set to expire at midnight last night.

The station, a Fox affiliate, had warned that viewers in the area may not get local sports, including the Green Bay Packers, if DISH cut its signal.

"I don't feel either side in this dispute emerged a winner, but I feel it is a deal in the best interest of the viewer," said Robert Raff, vice president and general manager at WFXS.

The real ironic thing here is that hours after WFXS & DISH reached the deal, WFXS' transmission line caught fire and they went off the air (and off DISH & DirecTV). They were off satellite for about four days, judging by the accounts on their website.
