Yes, if KUIL does not pick up the NBC affilation (or another station in the market), then AAD could probably offer NBC from Atlanta/S.F.
With that said, this is actually bigger news for the TRUE FTA community, as KUIL is on AMC 4 @ 101w and with them dropping their Fox affilation, its one less Fox that is now available on the KU system.

Yeah, expect KUIL to take NBC.
I'm putting this on the News Monitor today.

You think that's bad, my dad used to live in a podunk town with one TV station; and somehow they held affiliations with all four networks; and picked and chose what they wanted to show.
Neither Dish or Dtv offers locals in this town, and since this one channel had all the affiliations for the networks, he couldn't get distant networks either.
What a POS situation.

AT one time media general in jacksonvilles ch 17 wjks did an abc/wb split until abc25 wjxx hit the air as abc 25 17 became wjwb now know as wjwb 4 years ago before dish or direct got locals for jacksonville about 5 years ago after 53 years wjxt that used to a cbs affiliate became independent 47 wtev upn then cbs upn moved to ch 30 which now is fox/mnt
im surprised that wjxt4 didnt go with mnt like kron 4 did former nbc affiliate had done
independent stations r a dying breed

Let me guess: Glendive, MT?
With the digital transition stations like this can use 4 subchannels to carry all 4 networks in SD. TBN runs a 5 SD channel digital signal in most markets where they own the station (as opposed to an affilliated TBN station owned by another entity). So it's entirely possible.
In a nearby market (Youngstown) the NBC runs a CW subchannel, the CBS runs a FOX subchannel (which is also on LPTV on 2 different analog channels), and the ABC has a "My Network" subchannel and a local weather subchannel.

It's even worse in the Quincy-Hannibal market:
-The CBS affiliate runs ABC on .2
-The NBC affiliate runs CW on .2 AND runs FOX on .3
They don't have a My Network affiliate at all...

Just got the following e-mail from KUIL-LP about the impeding network affilation change. It reads as follows
Quote:
Thank you for your email. We are disappointed also in the loss of our Fox affiliation in Beaumont effective January 1st, 2009. We are currently exploring several other avenues for programming and affiliation, and while I cannot go into specifics at this time, rest assured that the direction we take the station will be in the best interest of KUIL and its viewers. There are no plans for the station to disappear from the market, and as we narrow down the possibilities in front of us, we will be informing our viewers of the exciting new programming on KUIL 64.
Thank you for being a loyal viewer, please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have other questions.
Thanks,

I'm going way off topic here but I have tidbits of information on several items discussed...
I believe KXGN in Glendive, MT is the only station remaining that carries more than one big-4 network on its primary channel (as opposed to a subchannel). They carry the entire CBS lineup plus a few hours of NBC.
A number of stations carry 1 HD channel and 3 SD channels. This includes KMIZ in Columbia, MO (ABC in HD and FOX, CW, and a weather channel in SD) and WDSE in Duluth, MN, a PBS station.
I would look for more new digital subchannels bringing networks to the smallest markets. Though the subchannels can't be HD, the stations can supply an HD feed to cable companies. It's good for the viewers who don't have cable, good for the local stations who can sell ads on more networks, and good for the networks who can claim more affiliates. FOX has made an especially big push in this area and is now only missing a few markets.

Not compleatly true on the sd only for subchannels. Sherman/Ada runs a 1080i cbs channel, a 720p fox channel and a sd mytv channel. It can be done with the right equipment and it looks great.

Tell that one to the "HD purists". They cringe when there is one subchannel carying weather info. 2 HD feeds

WKBN-DT (CBS/FOX) has "flipped" their HD feeds a couple of times. They created a "27.3" which is FOX HD for the Super Bowl and a NASCAR race, but when this happens 27.1 becomes CBS SD.
The engineer at that station posts over on the AV Science Forums in the local HD area and said that they can only do 1 HD feed at a time. BTW: It's on that same forum where you will find the HD purists I mentioned above.

Have that engineer look at this article and go visit harmonic, then he could have 2 hd streams and one sd on one channel too.
