Lost (Please, no spoilers)

I recently started watching Lost from the beginning via Netflix streaming. I'm 12 episodes in & getting hooked. Does the show stay this great or is there a Jump The Shark moment? Also, does it turn into a super Sci-Fi show at some point? I'm not a huge Sci-Fi buff, but some is ok.

Well...it's kind of hard to answer those questions without spoiling it! It does get more "sci-fi" as the seasons progress, but not never "sci fantasy". They eventually offer some plausible "tomorrow's technology" answers to most everything.

That's cool, then. I just didn't want it turning all Farscape & such.

Sigma, this is such a hotly discussed show that everyone has a different opinion!! There were some episodes that I don't think were up to par and there was certainly one season that was heavily debated as to whether or not it was an entire waste of time!! But it still keeps you hooked and the acting, chemistry, intensity and emotions of the characters are simply outstanding!!

As far as the answers and the eventual end, again, this is so hotly debated that there will be those who feel betrayed by the writers no matter how they end this. Too bad, because they just need to enjoy a truly terrific show!

Have fun!!

Thanks Supramom! The part I bolded is what has hooked me in, so far. Is the season that people think was a waste Season 3?

Hmmmm. Watching "Lost" from episode 1 through the end of last season will give you a different perspective coming into the next season.

As Supramom2000 says, the show, like most shows, wanders away at times and at other times is genius. Many times the showrunners were bitterly attacked by some in the loyal fan base. But the production values are consistently outstanding.

Season 3 as the worst is the general consensus. Part of it is because it was aired badly: several episodes in the fall, then a very long hiatus and the rest of the episodes aired in the spring. The long gap made people a bit angry!

The long hiatus is just a trendy thing they're trying out. This is in advance of re-branding the network to "abesee" as their head marketing people have discovered the alphabet appears to be in the public domain.

Season 3 is generally mentioned as being the weakest, but it does have some outstanding individual episodes.

I've been watching from the start, but this fall I started rewatching all the DVD's to be refreshed before the new (final) season. I'm currently a little more than halfway through season 3, and have been pleasantly surprised that it is better than I remembered.

It is definitely worth watching the entire series.

Don't listen to these folks .. other than a few sequential episodes (yes, in season 3) the series has been outstanding. If you are watching the show in chunks, the "down" section will go by quickly rather than over a few weeks. If you like what you've already seen, watch it all.

Thanks everyone! My biggest concerns were put to rest...that it won't become all "super sci-fi."

I'm hooked!

I am also a fan of Lost. I think once the writers had an end date with the network and they always knew how they wanted to end it then they were able to work backwards to make sure every episode was essential to the storyline. There might have been a few episodes before that time some fans considered "filler". IMO the show has been better after they knew exactly how many more episodes they were going to make.

I remember at the end of Season 1 it seemed like all there was in the show were questions and no answers but I will add that many of the questions have been answered in the following seaons, but like the writers said in life you will never have the answer to "everything" so there will be some things that will go unanswered. Which I don't think is always a bad thing because then people can have their own idea and that also makes it interesting to discuss.

I lent a friend Lost Season 1-3 and he watched them all in about 3 weeks and was hooked. He and I are not Sci-Fi fans either but we are still hooked, just to re-affirm that you should keep watching and shouldn't be dissappointed.

It is better than most movies.

Just an interesting item to note: The writers originally had Jack die at the end of the first episode but ABC made them change it because they thought it would piss off fans when they were already emotionally attached to the character. So I think it shows the writers are not afraid to try knew things with the show and there will be surprises.

Enjoy!

I had heard that as well, but I heard it was because they were blown away by his performance and the audience connection to his character, as well as his chemistry with the other actors.

I think it all depends on how you like your shows. I loved all seasons of Lost, I found season three to be the weakest but it was still watchable.
My Wife on the other hand loved Season 1 & 2 then she started to lose interest in Season 3 and by Season 5 she completly lost interest, she says it's now a SciFi show and just too confusing to watch. A few of my coworkers also stopped watching for the same reasons. My opinion is that if you watch every episode then it's a great show, but if you miss two or three epiisodes you will have a really hard time understanding whats going on.

I'm also at the end of Season 4 now, having watched all of Season 3 and 4 on the ABC site. My only issue with Season 4 is that it's sometimes challenging to figure out whether you are watching a flash back or a flash forward in some segments. This is especially true if you are watching late at night and falling asleep at times

What do I like best so far about LOST: The acting of the guy who plays Benjamin Linus. Without spoiling anything, there is one episode where Benjamin has a crush on someone and it is so well done and so funny! I think the guy who plays Locke is also terrific.

As for those who get all bent out of shape because the story is not going where they think it should...
