DirecTV Movers Connection MPEG4 Locals Area

We are getting ready to move to a new house here soon. I am just curious about something before I schedule the movers install date. I am in the Traverse City - Cadillac area in Michigan so my locals are MPEG4 now soon to be switched over permanently. I already had everything swapped for MPEG4 a while back so I now have one R22-100 and three H21-200s.

I would like to add a second DVR to our account when we move. It would go into my room so I would deactivate one of the H21s. I am hoping I can get it for just the shipping charge like on the commercial. I know the commercial says HD receiver or DVR upgrade. I really just need an SD DVR but they dont install them in this area anymore. I am just wondering if the movers connection is different in this area now that all receivers need to be MPEG4 capable. We really have no need for HD ATM but will add HD access as soon as we get an HDTV.

I know I wont know for sure till I schedule the install appointment for the move. I am on here frequently so I just thought that I would post here to see if anyone knows how this would work. I have no problem with another 2 year agreement. I also wouldn't mind having a few movie channels for the 3 months either .

It all depends....if you ask for a DVR upgrade to happen during the move you'll either get an HR model, or less likely scenario another R22...The cost depends on your acct history, payments, etc....you wont know unless you call, I cant tell from your question if you're more concerned about getting it for free or what model you'll get.

Ive been a customer for almost two years (first installed January 08). My equipment was swapped out for MPEG4 in march 09. I was mainly just wondering about how it would work in this area. I only really need an SD DVR but they dont install them anymore. Even when we add HD access this location would still be SD but I definitely need the local channels. The commercial says free DVR or HD receiver but all DVRs installed in this area are MPEG4 so there really isnt an SD DVR anymore.

I would like to get it just for the $20 shipping charge since they have to come to install the dish anyways. Im not out for freebies or anything I was just lookin for info on how a movers upgrade would work in this area. They couldn't very well give HD receiver upgrades in this area as they all need to be HD anyways . I dont care what model DVR gets installed I would be happy with another R22 if they would install it. If anything happens they would be replaced with MPEG4 regardless.

If your moving (staying) in a Mpeg4 only market then you will get a R22/HR2x. If your moving to a mixed market, then it will be a R15/16.

Yea its the same area not really to far away. Hopefully it all works out we haven't even started moving yet so I don't want to call in just yet. Theres tons of stuff to move before we can even move the stuff in the house. Im on here all the time so just wanted to post it .

We just have the choice xtra plus DVR and three normal hd receivers no premiums, sports packs, etc. The bills always been paid on time. Had auto-pay in the beginning but the pay date was at a bad time so had to turn it off. Whatever happens I am sticking with DirecTV. Now that I have found these forums and what Ive learned about DirecTV I will never change to another TV provider

Hey everyone sorry to revive my old thread here. I just wanted to post a follow up now that everything is installed.

I had an installation date set for January 5th between 12pm and 4pm got a call saying between 4pm and 8pm. Well installer calls right around 8 and said he wouldn't be here till 9:30pm. I call him back around 10 after he still isn't here he was just leaving a job about a 40 minute drive away. So from my 12 to 4 appointment the installer didn't get here till pretty much right at 11 at night. It was no problem for me I was just surprised that he was still up to coming so late. there was already a slimline installed on a pole even though it is kinda loose. All he had to do was swap out the normal LNB for a SWM LNB and drill holes in the bedrooms. The worst part was going pulling the new coax through all the drifted snow up to the dish. The coax spool kept coming out of the box so it didn't uncoil very easy. After talking to him he said he only lived a few miles away so I guess it wasn't to bad for him.

Anyways I had no problem getting the free DVR upgrade and keeping my account just standard definition. The installer would have replaced my R22 with an HD DVR but I have alot of recordings I didn't want to lose. The new DVR he installed is an HR22-100 to replace the H21 in my room. It is brand new I don't see anything about it being refurbished. I cant wait till this friday for reasons I cant discuss in this section of the forum

The only thing I noticed is that two of the TPs on the 101 are in the 70s but all of the other sats are in the high 90s or high 80s. I am not sure why two of the transponders on the 101 are so low. Everything seems to be working fine he even peaked the dish before swapping out the lnb. The dish pole does move around alot though and he recommended having it re-cemented in the spring.

101 has several spot beam transponders, so it is normal to have a couple of low (even 0) strength transponders on 101.

I hope you tipped this guy. He was clearly overloaded, had no support, was on a 16+ hour day, and had to work in the snow and freezing temps all day, and still got your install done. "It wasn't too bad for him"? Try it sometime...

I understand what he has to go through everyday. What I meant by it wasn't to bad is that it was a pretty easy install. He had a big corporate install with a non penetrating mount earlier in the day. The 101 transponder signals that are low are 17 and 25 the 0s are 4, 12, and 20 the rest are perfectly normal. I would have tipped him but I didnt have any cash on hand at the time. I helped him run all the coax and everything he was a real cool guy.
