I think 148, 157 will become the Dish500 birds for HI and AK.

As I recall, FCC granted Echostar tpns 1,3,5 at 157 sat - not the 7 and 11.

E4 must be in REALLY BAD condition if they cannot run on the assigned channels. And what will they do on February 17th?

I agree, although E* needs more bandwidth and a new satellite to make it so. E* has 49 transponders on Dish500 - 10 of them spotbeams which would leave 39 transponders of content. E* has 35 transponders at the new Dish500 location, 148-157. Nice math except for two issues:

#1) CONUS locals on 148 that would need to be moved, forcing the replacement of many dishes.
#2) 148 and 157 do not currently point at Hawaii. Temporary reaiming may be able to be done IF the receive dish still faces the uplink.

I believe AK/HI are the best use of 148-157. Perhaps a third bird can be bought for 148 with JUST a Hawaii spot? Then again it would be nice to cover other pacific areas if possible.

That would give me a stronger signal. I'd still need to look at 110 for the HD tho. Interesting to see what happens.

MattB. Naw, he has a home in Alaska It's in a village named Ikuktlitlig, for when he REALLY wants to get away from it all.

The local channels are probably there just for testing or something. I remember hearing that they had to do something with the slot or they loose it (or lose it. or whatever the hell it is)

Lose - don't have anymore, like lost.
Loose - not tight - although you can set something loose and lose it

Site - a place, such as a page or collection of pages on the web
Sight - vision, such as a line of vision to a satellite
You can look at this web site if you have line of sight to the monitor.
What a sight this web site is!

Hi guys...I've received several notices of this thread's existence and some independent e-mails with this info on it. I'll update the channel chart late tommorow/Sunday morning. My "day" job got in the way again. It must be the height of the high school basketball season.

Oh, and lI have to add this to Lurker's post because this one is getting out of hand too:

There -- A place. Not here. It's over there.
Their -- Belonging to them. It's their mistake.
They're -- Contraction for "they are"

They're over there with their friends.

See ya
Tony

A Graphic Viewpoint

I took a rough sketch of what E4 would have covered from a satellite eye view from 110º or 119º and overlaid that pattern on a picture of what E4 is now capable of seeing from 157º.

It looks like the regular ConUS coverage is more than half blown out to space, if they want to keep any coverage of Hawaii. I've attached a picture based on keeping Hawaii covered.

Edit: The picture has been changed to also show Hawaii not covered but better mainland coverage.

Enjoy!

With DIRECTV's new approach to putting whole markets on separate satellites, I wonder if Dish is now testing reception on 157 for small western markets. With three transponders they might be able to put up 4-5 small markets on 157. Tiny DMAs they could probably get 8 up there.

Also it looks like the national channels they have on transponder 11 are all channels Hawaii can't get currently. So they could offer Hawaii these extra channels and sell more AT180 packages to them, and then offer small western DMAs locals. Assuming E4 does not disintegrate

It depends on where they end up getting signal coverage. I've redone the map to exclude Hawaii, just in case they decide that the west coast is more important than the far west.

I would not put ANY stock in what is currently on any of the transponders at 157º. TP1 is an exact copy of 119º TP1 Northwest Spotbeam - TP7 is an exact copy of 119º TP7 Arizona Spotbeam - and TP11 is an exact copy of 110º TP11. It is just test material. Why they chose these three (especially needing a 60 day STA to do it) is probably more of a reflection of the poor status of E4 than a decision of its final use.
