Alert: KBHK now accessible via 921
Those of you in the San Francisco Bay Area with a 921 are probably familiar with the fact that the 921 hasn't been able to tune in KBHK (the UPN affiliate broadcasting on digital 45 and analog 44) due to it's lack of any PSIP information. I have been in touch with their engineering department and they have told me that their PSIP generator is on order and should be working in June.
While waiting for this to happen I occasionally try to add KBHK to my 921 (it shows a strong signal but it just can't be saved) to see if anything has changed. I also have an 811 which allows me to watch the channel and to monitor their implementation of the PSIP generator at least in terms of station call letters and any remapping of the digital channel number to the analog channel number.
I noticed that their transmitter was down the last couple of days which I believe is due to their attempt to try and fix a problem with their signal where it locks up for a second (or exhibits a dropout) every couple of minutes. This is particularly annoying when watching Enterpise which is the only UPN show I watch. Anyway, to make a long story short (oops, too late for that), I tried again last night to add KBHK to my 921 and to my surprise I was able to do it. It doesn't remap 45-1 to 44-1 and it doesn't add the KBHK call letters but it does work including all DVR functions. I then manually edited the name of 45-1 to add the KBHK call letters and everything is working great.
Those of you in this situation try it out and report back your results. I don't know exactly what's changed (no 921 software update and apparently no PSIP generator) but I don't really care as long as it continues to work.
