DirecTV Plus dish for Dish1000
In case anyone is interested, I finally got around to setting up the Dish 1000 with a DirecTV Phase I dish. I have also discovered that you can use a Phase II dish(the one with the multi-switch built into the W bracket), but you have to have one that you can disassemble the W bracket and remove the switch. At that point, it is basically a Phase I dish. There is a plastic bracket inside the W bracket of my Phase II dish that makes running wires with fittings on them a challenge, but it can be cut out to make it easier. Here's my signals from the most northern part of VA:
110 - 80-110
119 - 105+
129 - 50-80
I am using an SW64. I have looked at using DP LNBs, but I am not sure that the W bracket can handle it because of the amount of cutting required. It may make the bracket too weak. However, since the W bracket fits on a Dish500 arm, if the Dish1000 bracket will fit on a D500 arm, then you should be able to use DP LNBs that way. I'm not in a D1000 area, so I haven't had a chance to use one. The Phase III DirecTV dish WILL NOT Work. It has a switch built into the LNB. Further, you can use any rectangular LNB on the Phase I/II dishes, except the D* Sat C LNB. It will not work, and must be replaced with a regular LNB.
The Phase I/II dishes are made by Channel Master and are a Composite dish measuring 24" wide and 18" tall. When I have time, I will try to re tune the dish to get the 129 in better, but so far none of the V* channels have dropped out at all. Further, due to the low look angle of the 129 in my area, I may have an obstruction(like a building) causing some of the signal loss.
Good Luck.
