Retailer Chat, February 7, 2006: some details...

Jim and Erik in Studio... ( "Lots to cover.. potential record" - this chat went for almost 2 hours )

Wednsday, Feb. 8, 2006 - Launch of 10th Satellite (Echo X) .. (Showing pics of Launch Equipment, etc)
"Launch at about 4:15 Mountain Time or so.. on ch 101" ------> (We know by now that it didn't happen... Delayed...)
This Launch will be VERY important for DISH's future... Will allow to do whole bunch of HD locals... will be at 110 location, will have several Spot Beams.. Means more than judy few HD locals.. - will allow DISH to get rid of all locals on SuperDISH! (That wil NOT happen on Thursday or Friday .. as DISH has to convert all trafic to new satellite first .. so about 45 days or so.. maybe a bit longer with this Satellite ( after it ACTUALLY launched ) .. Once DISH does that though - "You will not need SuperDISH on any new installs - DISH 1000 will handle it for you!"
No need to change all other SuperDISHes - signal will be from 110, and Customers with SuperDISHes have already 110, 119 nad either 105 or 121... - will have locals then from 110 but obviously with a Stronger Signal! ("expecially those having some issues on 105 and 121 Satellites") ..
Customers will NOT know any difference .. Signal will be coming from 110, from Echo X..
New Installs, though, can be just done with DISH 1000.

Erik: "On next chat (or ? ...chat(s)), obviously, We will have more info on SuperDISH Dismissal's exact Timing. So BIG day for us Wednsday" - ( Wednsday - didn't happen though... )

Carrying on:

Juneau, AK - added CBS on Jan. 26, 2006 on 110 location... - $5.99 / month (No FOX affiliate available presently.. so for now Customers will get $1.00 / month Credit - So, $4.99 / month for now...)

Harlinger, TX - added FOX on Feb. 2, 2006 on 110 location... - $5.99 / month

Oxygen launched on 1/16 - ch 127 (AT 120, DishHD Silver and above)
(Free Preview until Feb. 28/06)

As well, as Encore Love - ch 126 .. and WE - ch 125 (Free Preview until Feb. 28/06) (AT 60, DishHD Bronze and above)

Also on Jan. 25/06 - The Documentary Channel was Launched - ch 197 (AT 60 and above)

In addition, resolved Dispute with Lifetime and LMN on Jan. 31/06
Available now on ch 108 - Lifetime Television Channel (AT 60 and above) .. and on ch 109 - Lifetime Movie Network (AT 180, DishHD Gold and above)

NFL Network - ch 154 - Thursday and Saturday NFL Football games! - Coming to NFL Network Next Season (AT 120 and above) .. 2006 season!
That also means those games will be broadcasted in HD on DISH...
So that means - NFL games on DISH Platform - Thursday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday!

Internationals - South Asian Cricket PPV Event - India vs. Pakistan ... Jan 4 - Feb 18 - Full Package was - $149.95 ... ODIs pack available now ONLY (for $109.95)
Customers who subscribe to Hindi Package (New Customers ONLY) and Cricket PPV (discribed above) will get a PROMO - 1 month FREE (credit) on their Hindi Package

Abu Dhabi TV - ch 768 replaced Kuwait TV (ch 769) - in Arabic Elite Super Pack on 121 location... ( on Jan 25/ 2006)

Inrternational "No SSN" promo - extended till Feb 28 / 06 (DISH is planning to improve it in the Future with some changes)

February - SuperBowl and Olympics!
On February 8 - there will be Olympic Mosaics on DISH Home (ch 100) :
"USA, MSNBC, CNBC, Bravo, SCIFI and Highlights Ch"
Cool New Feature is coming as well - Hit Sports and NBC Olympics Showcase ... and you ll get "everything you need to know about Torino, Italy")
- Olympics on HD:
-- Universal HD - about 100 hours (ch 9427 or 9426)
-- Local NBC in HD (where available i guess) - about 200 hours

Universal HD will be in MPEG 2 in February - so ALL customers can view... then it will change in March ( to MPEG 4)

DishFamily pack ($19.99 / month .. or with Locals - $24.99 / month) .. - NOT a Promo, BUT a Permanent Price! .. - everyday LOW price
Some Details:
- 40 channels
- Qualifying programming for all the Promotions

DISH Family beats all other Family Tiers:
- Dish - $19.99 (wo Locals) - 40 or more channels
- DirecTV - $31.99 (wo Locals) - 39 channels
- Comcast - $31.20 - about 40 channels
- Time Warner - $32.94 - about 40 channels
- Cox Comm. - $32 - about 40 channels
- Insight - $33.36 - about 40 channels

- Some Free Access channels were blocked from Dish Family and require now AT 60 (as of Jan 26/06) .. - Reason - Some of those blocked channels may have been viewed as inappropriate channels if you are a Dish Family Customer...
("ONLY effected by this really (not many of those) are International ONLY and Premium ONLY Cusomers")

...
Talking about few Promos and Volume Discounts now .. and about some Retailer Economics...

...
This is (was) a LONG chat.. so more of this Recap later...

105 and 121 would be a good place for backhauls and special feeds. They have the space - might as well use it.

What!!! Dish is removing the aspect selections for SD channels output as 1080 or 720? Unbelievable. I'm cancelling my order for the 622.

Thanks for the info, Darkman. You just saved me a lot of money.

I believe that is referring to TV1's output WHILE you are also running HD from TV1, which is why the line above mentions to use 4x3 #2 since that keeps HD at 16x9. notice that subset falls under SD output for TV1, not TV2

[quote] As well, as Encore Love - ch 126 .. and WE - ch 125 (Free Preview until Feb. 28/06) (AT 60, DishHD Bronze and above)
[quote]
this is NOT entirely correct.
FREE PREVIEW of Encore Love - ch 126 is NOT available for AT60 customers!
It's not even in the guide. (not that it should be, .... just clarifing)

Not sure.. i might have misunderstood..
(re: that Free Preview) .. was typing too fast..
Unless they made a boo-boo...

As to that "What!!! Dish is removing the aspect selections for SD channels output as 1080 or 720? Unbelievable. I'm cancelling my order for the 622." (in post #8 above) .. - i don't think it's like that.. I am not that technical to understand all that.. .. so you should maybe enquire with them before cancelling your order...
(they were talking about something else i believe)

The no format option means on the SD output you'll only get 4:3 that's it.

HD will be letterboxed and SD on an HD ota channel will be windowbox.

This is how the 942 has been now. Only the 811 has the option to go from normal to full zoom on the SD outputs

Again.. I am NOT sure...

Suggest to double-check with DISH...

But they were talking about this new 622 receiver.. as if it was some futuristing state of the art

Darkman I was NOT saying it was your mistake about channel 126 in AT60, I'd wager that it was their mistake.
Since AT60 did not originally have LMN , AT60 did not get the free addtion of encore love, so that's why it's not in AT60. It isn't supposed to be.

I've got a 921 with a dish 1000, and i don't see UniversalHD (It's the main channel I ordered a 622 for)

The 942 does this in "Single" mode.
You can adjust the TV2 aspect ratio using the * "format" button on your remote.
I think it is always 4:3 in dual mode.
