Sony unveils Net-connected hard-disk video recorder
The recorder includes a 160 gigabyte hard-disk drive, able to record 15 hours of high-definition TV or up to 100 hours of standard quality programs, with a possible expansion to 320 gigabytes. Sony will also offer a service, for a fee, that lets users set the machine from a cell phone to record a TV program. The PVR and service will be rolled out in Japan first.

I also found this Flash movie on Sony Japans website. Its in japanese, but I think its interesting anyway.

Well I am a generally a big fan of Sony, I worry about them also being a content provider. I think the PVR is going to follow the direction of their MP3 players and incorporate all kinds of nasty copy protection/use restriction technology. The unit might not have it at now, but at some point in the future; whammo a firmware upgrade and the borg take control

I'd say all PVRs in the future will have to take into consideration DCMA. Its going to be tough for any maker not to put copy protection in because congress seems to be on the side of Hollywood.

Very polite. I'd hate to think it might commit Hara-kiri if rejected too much.
