Seems like I use 10812 on my Samsung, but that's from memory.
A Google search should turn a code right up.
Did you put in the code to control TV volume while in the DirecTV position?

I used that code when I changed it to tv and it wouldnt do volume or mute just power. Strangely I turned it to AV1 and did it again and now I have all of them. Thanks, I wouldnt have tried the code again if it wasnt for your post, but strange it had to be AV1 when all there is dvr and tv.

J

Now that i think again I bet its because this dvr was in the living room with the audio receiver, duhh.

Sounds like your volume control is slaved to AV1. Need to undo that and redo it for TV.
If there's no other replies until I get home from the gym (where I'm at now) I'll post how to.

I currently use a RC64 remote. I want to go to RF. Can someone explain to me the differences in the RC65r and the RC65RX? BTW, I am not interested in backlit models. My HD DVR is an HR 22 and TV is Samsung.

The X means its a "learning remote", in that it will interact with an HR34/24 or H24/25 to program the TV and Audio Video Components. With an HR22 its just a plain RF remote, you input the codes instead of the IRD.

In the model RC6x "R" is for RF, "B" is backlit, "X" is for those that auto program with TVs.
So RC6x is IR only
RC6xR is RF
RC6xRB is RF & backlit
RC6xRBX has it all

Hey all,

I've got an HR-20 and the original remote with it... (I think -I'm not at home to check the model, but I think it's a RC64R)
The remote works 4 ft away from the reviver, but no further. Direct line of sight, no obstructions.
Also it seems like it needs to "warm up" and becomes "faster" after I've been watching TV for a bit.

I haven't tested all the scenarios, but the setup is in my basement. The TV is Sony 60 inch LCD Backlit with LED (??) and I have a low ceiling (7ft or less) with 8 recessed cans with fluorescent bulbs in them. So I've read that the "light" could be an issue.

I've gone to channel 1 for several minutes.
I've done the whole (mute+select....)

But with no luck. Any suggestions?

Is there a way to call and get a new remote? $15 for a replacement won't break me...but It seems as part of a "leased" reciever that I should get one for free if it doesn't work.

Yes, the flourescent lights create IR signals that interfere with the remote operation.
First thing is to check and replace the batteries as they might be low.
Second, a piece of Blue painters tape placed over the sensor for the remote ( just to the right of the power light on the receiver ) or a piece of Scotch tape and darkened with a Marks a Lot of Sharpy will keep out the unwanted IR interference.

Another sure fire way to do away with it is to change the Remote and Receiver to operate using the RF signal instead of the IR. This is only available with a remote with the R after the number.

Get a new one, if you have eliminated battery problem, line of sight and interference. You don't have a lot of lights on while watching, do you?

Solid Signal, Monoprice, eBay is where I'd look first for a new remote. The difference might buy you an inexpensive lunch.

I will try the painters tape. batteries are new. I will look into changing to RF.

is any one remote better than another? 62 vs 63 vs 64 vs 65? (if that is the order and actual number for the series?) (please no HR-20 vs HR-21 vs HR-22 comparisons :)

Get a RC65RX or RC65RBX.
The second one has backlighting of the keys if you would want that.
The RC65RX is about $ 7.50 new and delivered on Ebay.

It is backwards compatible.

Ok I spent just a few minutes downstairs this morning before work.

1. remote seems to work "better" with lights off.
2. remote seems to work worse with lights off and painters tape over sensor
3. remote seems to work worse with lights on and painters tape over sensor.

sound like I'm going to get a new remote. I have an HR-20, so I will have to get an antenna as well

That does not sound right. That sounds like your remote is failing.
If you have the protection plan DirecTV will send you a remote and an antenna so you can switch to RF if you call them.

Ok, We do have the protection plan, any suggestions on best way to work with CSR to ensure I get a replacement and not "troubleshoot" for 30 minutes rebooting, replacing batteries, standing on my head while using remote, etc?

I don't think you will get all that for the remote.
I would tell them I am having problems with it, I have changed the batteries, put the Blue Tape over the sensor and nothing works and the forums indicate I should be using the RF mode instead of IR and that you need a new RF remote and an antenna for your receiver.

Hopefully you get a sharp CSR.

I suggest you turn off the backlit on the tv, at least turn it down, try the directv remotes then.

after 25 minutes on the phone I have a new remote on the way. I asked for an RF with antenna. we shall see.

Even though I told the CSR all the things I did I still had to repeat a couple of the steps. He actually had me do the 981 remote reset function. He also remotely rebooted my receiver (didn't know they could do that) That was 12 minutes of the call, waiting, waiting, acquiring satellites, thinking, Chekcing in with Microsoft to see who's OS is slower..waiting. Finally… No change in the functionality.

So new remote on the way.

Thanks for all the help guys.

Got my RC65 in the mail today. Thanks DirecTV for not sending an RF remote like I asked. It was free because the CSR determined it was damaged.
