CBS President Les Moonves:

"People flipped over to [ABC's] Charlie Gibson, but those are mostly 60-plus[-year-old] men. That's not a demographic we want."

Moonves turns 60 next year.

"In a hundred years there'll be a whole new set of people."
"Always poke the bears. They sleep too much for their own good."

"If you're good enough, they'll talk about you." - Tom Harmon

It's a sad, sad day when one realizes he has reached the last age bracket, and the final
demographic that no one but nursing homes and funeral parlors are interested in. Oh,
and the makers of Depends.

I think we "old folks" are just a little more discriminating about how we spend our money. To me, that's a good thing. To the marketeers, it's not. Too bad!

You know, once you hit 35 it's all downhill anyway as far as the marketing is concerned. They're really only interested in young impressionable viewers.
Opinions expressed by me are my own and do not necessarily reflect
those of DBSTalk.com, DIRECTV, DISH, The Signal Group, or any other company.

"They get bad demographics" is TV speak for "they get a much higher rating".

BTW, the demographics for the 6:30 commentary on the news has been OLD people for decades. Set in their ways. Everybody else moved to FNC or CNN years ago.

Bingo. It's not necessarily a compliment to be considered part of TV's primary demographic target.

Well, not all us geezers. We quit watching TV news somewhere in the 90's when we realized the entertainment division took over - and that includes FNC and CNN. Particularly offensive - streams of talking heads with opinions not quite as valid as Homer Simpson's. The internet has been good to those seeking news reports based on the old adage - "who, what, where, when, why, and how" - with "why" answered by "who" not by the reporter.

Still, that CBS News "doesn't want me" is a bit offensive. But Moonves is not always tactful....
