Ron I sure wish you could clarify the 29.99 hd pack I see in the slide. Is it just hd channels for 29.99?

In an effort to curb my paranoia about the Echostar - Dish split, I'll just mention without comment that the latest TV Week HD Newsletter mentions the Echostar TR-50 being praised but didn't mention Dish Network's existence.

It also discusses new HD programming on some cable channels I likely won't be able to see for most of 2008....

Are you sure Dish Network held a press conference or did the new Echostar have a big presence?

I think that it was mostly to define the split between the two parts of the echostar company. Also to define what company did what now. In the future it might be held seperately instead of together. Especialy if the DISH portion gets sold off to another company.

I was wondering the same. That picture is very blurry.

Blurry, but not incomprehensible. It certainly appears to be HD only.
Details in about two weeks, more or less. Hopefully the $7 no package fee doesn't apply to $29.99 DishHD subscribers.

Sorry guys.. .I tried my best to clean it up.... but it was part of a bigger slide and given the conditions it was grainy to start with.

It says:
ALL YOU NEED TO GET THE BEST SPORTS & MOVIES IN HD!
Over 40 Great HD Channels
Contains HD Channels Only

Below the box:
MORE CHANNELS TO COME IN 2008!
Get over 22 Regional Sports Network in HD! $4.99/mo

The bottom line is beyond my ability to read.
I can't read the line under "3 months free!" in the box either.

A bigger version is available here.

this makes Dish HD the most expensive compared to Direct Tv. Direct TV total HD pack is $15.99 and they have more stations.

Really? No other package required? Got a link?

I highly doubt that D* is offering ALL of their HD for $1 more than they offer their HD as an add on to their regular packages.

James you are being dishonest are you saying that for $29.99 I will get all Hd and do not have to subscribe to Dish regular package??

Yes you do have to subscribe to DirectTV regular package. If this $29.99 stand alone package than I will be a happy Dish customer and drop my permium package.

Did you look at the picture in the link (you can even make out what most of the channels are)? It says 40 HD channels for $29.99 which we are all assuming means it is a stand alone package with no requirements for other packages. It makes sense, $20 bucks for 70+ HD channels as an add-on package, without the add-on requirement you pay a bit more for a fewer channels.

I know that when you sub to just locals and say encore pack ,like I do for my Aunt in Arkansas, you get dinged for a no basic pack charge of 6.00. Maybe they will do the same for the hd pack ,but charge 7.00 for the hd enabeling fee. They did that the year before last year when the hd pack was first offered ,but it was only 6.00 back then.

The image is blurry, but if anyone can come up with any words that would fit in the pattern where my eyesite clearly reads "Over 40 Great HD Channels - Contains HD Channels Only" please let us know!

As noted above, it does not say if the $29.99 DishHD package requires the $7 no package fee or not. Be patient and we'll get the full details from Dish within a couple of weeks! But yes, Virginia, there is a standalone package!

I imagine that a lot of HD DISH subs may switch to the all hd pack just to keep their dish accounts going. That way they could also sub to Directv for more hd or THe best of both. That way once DISH is back in the lead for hd they can switch back to them full time . To bad DIRECTv doesn't have an all hd package as well.

What I find interesting about the slide is the line that says "Includes all costs of VIP HD receivers".

Does that mean no lease fee or DVR fee on VIP receivers with the New HD packages - I seriously doubt it - but that would be nice.
