DirecTV has added a lot of power to KEYWORD SEARCHES with the introduction of the Boolean operators AALL, AANY, NNOT, TTITLE, NNAME and CCHAN. I propose adding another operator, DDATE, that would allow us to specify a date range as well, using the show's "Original Air Date" information.

I envision DDATE working as follows:

CSI DDATE 2008 would limit the search to those episodes containing the string "CSI" that aired anytime in 2008.

CSI DDATE 0108 would more specifically limit the SEARCH to January, 2008.

CSI DDATE 0108 0308 would limit the SEARCH to January and March of 2008.

CSI DDATE 0108...0308 would limit the search to January through March of 2008.

The "..." could be available as an option by cycling through special characters using the "1" key on the remote. (I'm hopeful the "-" can be used in the future to specify OTA channels for the CCHAN operator).

If you agree, I'd like to add this request to the Wish List:

Create a DDATE operator for KEYWORD SEARCHES/AUTORECORDS.

The INFO balloon for the request would contain the examples above.

Please let me know what you think, and if you vote "other", please preface your post with: "I voted other".

TIA. /steve

In truth, any piece of information provided in the Guide Data should be searchable. There is absolutely no reason to not allow searching on any and everything.

I could see using it as an autorecord if I missed a particular episode and wanted to catch it in reruns.
Opinions expressed by me are my own and do not necessarily reflect
those of DBSTalk.com, DIRECTV, DISH, The Signal Group, or any other company.

I would say that you should drop the 2.... it doesn't fit in with you other options... it should just be 0008 2 digits for month, 2 for year... I doubt there are many programs that any ARSL would catch that originally aired in 1908 and 2008 :D

You're right! Actually simply using "08" should be enough, given there are probably no OAD's prior to the 1940's. A two-digit year should cover us for the next 35 years, give or take, when the developers of the HR56-2000 will have to worry about it. /steve

Boy could I need this feature now!

Wife and I are L&O:CI fans and just returned from a vacation where we missed two new episodes that aired in the past two weeks. Shame on me for forgetting to set my SL's to "First Run" only. Because USAHD shows several episodes of each show each week, the new episodes were overwritten thanks to my "5" limit of episodes.

What I need now is a law order DDATE 0708 AUTORECORD and I can't set one up!

Just getting into Boolean Searches and I can see the need for DDATE

And what about HHOURS?

I would like to add another one "TTIME" so if there are more than 1 versions of a Recording you can Specify what Time Slot you want to Record so you don't get Multiple Occurances of a Recording. :)

How hard could it be for Directv to Implement these 2 Boolean Operators.

Great idea. Since I record and archive programs this would be extremely beneficial to record a show only within the season which I've missed episodes.

Both DDate and TTime would be useful.

Probably wouldn't use it myself, but if others would, I'd like to see it added for them.

We really need to get back the 50 character limit for searches 1st....those modifiers really limit the searches sine they cut the character limit back to 30 from 50.....I can't re-write any of my ARSL using boolean keywords because of this.

Good ideals shouldn't be forgotten.

And who knows, in all that time, maybe someone has come up with another one.

I spend at east 3 Hours today trying to get the invisible 20 too work with zero success.

Actually one of my booleans I put together was 56 characters. So I would like even more than 50.

I wouldn't use it because many programs I watch do not have the correct first aired date or do not show a date at all. This happens a lot with Canadian programs. I want to see first aired dates in the U.S. not Canada.

Incorrect data on the tags or missing tags would be a reason I'd rather search via other means.

How about something that is actually useful, like being able to search the list of recorded programs? Two of my DVRs have 2 TB drives on them each holding over 430 hours of programming. If I want to go back and watch a Warehouse 13 recorded last summer I have to scroll forever; either that or go through 18 button-presses to resort the playlist and then resort if back.:eek2:
It's usually safe to talk honestly and openly with people because they typically are not really listening anyway.

I have asked Directv for this many many times as I have 7 DVRs with 13 Terabytes of Storage and believe you me I can Page forever to find things particularly if they are more than a month old.
