Does anyone know when Directv might carry ESPNU in HD? This would be so nice with the new Football season coming up?

DIRECTV will start carrying ESPNU HD at the end of August. That is when I believe ESPNU will start broadcasting in HD too.

Is ESPN still building a California HD studio? Maybe ESPNU will be broadcast from there?

:welcome_s to the site. The following link contains a press release from ESPN (dated 3/17/08) in regards to future HD channels coming from them. The article does not name any service providers in particular, but it does give info about what new ESPN channels are coming in the future. You will have to scroll down to the bottom of that page for the ESPNU HD info.

Don't think it's confirmed, and according to what Sat Racer said in another thread on this subject we might not want to get our hopes up on this either.

I believe that satelliteracer mentioned in a different thread about this topic that ESPNU HD would not be carried by D*, at launch, but shortly there after.

With September 4th being tossed around as the next national HD launch, I would look for it then.

Notice the date stamp on that post, then notice the date stamp on these posts from satelliteracer (a confirmed DirecTV employee that has been feeding us very accurate info on channel releases)

When Michael D'Angelo posted that back in June, it was assumed that D* would carry it at launch. Actually, the 2nd post I linked to satelliteracer even quoted Michael and said he didn't think the info was accurate.

I just assumed they'd follow a similar launch as what happened with ESPN News HD. That channel went live by itself the day it launched (IIRC).

the real question is what are the odds of this moving from the sports pack
I'd love to have ESPNU when it goes HD but not for $12 a month
al carte for say a buck would work
