Here in San Diego we get a dozen OTA HD stations out of Baja California, awesome soccer coverage and news, that the HR20 has no way of seeing, this was not a problem in the previous model HD DTV boxes, if you can pick it up over the air, you can watch it, on the HR20 they restrict you to 2 ZIP codes, and Mexico has no zip codes! There has got to be an engineering mode/menu for the thousands of San Diego residents who are used to watching these free HD stations can access to let you watch everything available at your location. Directv engineers should let you enter a zip code of say 99999 to do this. I can think of many cities along the border in the US that miss watching all these free OTA stations.

Same situation for those living near the Canadian border, and for those who receive stations by antenna from more than two cities. Unless they add the ability to enter more than just two zip codes and add stations from Canada and Mexico to the available station listings, many of us will either not be able to view all available channels or will have to switch over to the tv's tuner (with the inconvenience of antenna switching and the loss of tv guide data, of course).

Call sign : KLTL (LPB PBS)

Location : Lake Charles, LA

Channels : 18-3 and 18-5

Issue : LPB programming on HR20-700 is reversed. Programming on 18-3 is shown on 18-5 and programming on 18-5 is shown on 18-3. The guide data is correct but the programming is wrong. On the tv tuner and a dtv converter everything is correct.

Bump from 11/21. The AM21 still can't receive this station. At some point, it gets old repeatedly switching over to the tv's tuner (and also switching the antenna feed over to the tv) for just this one station. Does anyone know if DirecTV monitors this thread, or know of a specific contact at DirecTV to make sure the right person knows about this? Thanks...

Issue: WFUM has switched early from its temporary digital channel assignment (on channel 52) to its permanent digital assignment (on channel 28). Due to this change, my AM21 is unable to receive WFUM, until DirecTv resets 28-1 to correspond to physical channel 28.

Call Sign: WDCP/WDCQ
Location:University Center MI/Flint DMA
Channel: 19.1 19.2 19.3 19.4
Issue: with my OTA i can pickup 19.1 but not .2 .3 or .4, when I go to the antenna setup and check the signal strength all 4 have the same solid consistent signal strength in the 80's but when I tune to .2 .3 and .4 it says searching for signal. Any clue or suggestion on how to resolve this issue? I tried rerunning the antenna setup but that didn't work, and I have picked up these stations with the antenna just connected to my tv so I know the picture is there, it just seems like the HR20 isn't seeing it.

Call Sign: KUON

Location: Lincoln, NE

Channel: 12.1, 12.2, 12.3

Hardware: HR20-700, H20-600

Problem (HR20-700): 12.1 viewable. 12.2, 12.3=771 Searching message. Signal strengths for all=90's. Also, recording 12.1 renders the 771 Searching message and does not record. Once recording finished, 12.1 viewable again.

Problem (H20-600): The guide information for KUON is "KUONDT-1" and so forth. Only 12.1 viewable, the other subchannels=771 message. If a manual scan is performed, guide information adds "NET HD, NET-2, NET-3" to the other "KUONDT" listings. Signal strength is only found on the NET listings. Only 12.1 NET-HD is viewable, the others=771 message.

I just got an HR21/AM21 this week to replace my old HR20 that had various issues. With the HR20 I could not get WFUM since the move, but with the new AM21 I am getting it no problem. Not sure what the difference is, but I am getting just fine now.

The HR20-700 does not allow a manual scan, unfortunately, so I'm stuck.

The H20-600, however, does have the manual scan option. Go to menu - setup - sat&ant - antenna setup - and look around there.

However, there is trick to it, at least there was for me. If I manual rescan for OTA channels, it loads a second set of channel guide info for my pbs station. For example, when checking signal strengths, or editing which channels to view, there are now two listings for the pbs station. And I can only view the first main channel, the subchannels give the dreaded 771 searching message. The way around this is to reset everything, and as it reboots and starts up a fresh installation, you'll be asked to choose between "Satellite and Antenna" or "Satellite only". Choose satellite only, and let it finish installing everything. Then after all that has finished, run a manual scan, and all your OTA's should be found, including pbs, and you'll finally be able to view all the subchannels of pbs. The downside is that there will be no program information in the program guide for any of the OTA channels.

Issue : Now broadcasting - not in OTA guide.

Editorial Note: This would not be an issue if Directv would just turn on the scan for channels function!

Channel: 10-1 (local PBS affiliate, primary digital HD broadcast)
Issue: Missing from HR20 - not available through editing local channels

Sub-channel 10-2 is available on the HR20 and airs alternate programming. Channel 10-1 is the primary digital channel and has disappeared. This is a relatively recent problem.

Since I can't get PBS in HD from DTV, this leaves me no way to receive/record PBS in HD.

This is a preemptive warning of sorts in the hope that someone from DIRECTV really is monitoring this thread.

Location: New Orleans
Call Sign: WVUE-DT
Virtual Channels: 8-1, 8-2
Issue: These channels are moving from physical channels 29-1, 29-2 UHF to 8-1, 8-2 VHF on Monday, December 22, one week from today. The analog transmission ceased on VHF 8 today and the station has been mercilessly advertising the issue. The engineer at WVUE has also vowed to contact DIRECTV, but I thought I would post it here given DIRECTVs track record of moving in slow motion, smoking that bionic chronic.

So, I spent an hour on the phone with DTV. My intent was simply to make sure they were aware of the problem. In the end, they were actually able to correct it. Here's what we did.

1. In Antenna Setup, Reset local OTA. This will leave you with no OTA stations showing up.

2. Go through Initial Setup again. (Note that Step 2 alone did not correct the problem.)

When this was finished, 10-1 was back where it should be and 10-3 (which does not really exist) was gone.

I am still a little annoyed that this took over an hour of time and made me jump through hoops to get things back to correct, but I was pleasantly surprised to have the issue resolved.

I'm still curious as to why it went awry to begin with. I didn't get any real explanation there.

First the HR20-700:

Missing 16-1 (WVAW ABC)
Missing 19-2 (19NOW 24HR Wx)

Now the interesting one:
The H20-100:

Missing 16-1 (WVAW ABC)
Missing 19-2 (19NOW 24HR Wx)

However, all stations found during scan, but not available in the favorites list. When you tune to channel 19-1 you get WCAV CBS 50% of the time and WVAW ABC the other 50% of the time. If you go into the Antenna setup all channels show up, but they are not selectable in favorites or in the guide. I have complained about this for at least a year now in these forums. Stil hasn't been fixed. See if it gets fixed this time...

It's now 12/28/2008. This problem is still not resolved.

Contacts at WVUE have tried repeatedly to get this resolved and their contacts at DirecTV (high level LIL people) report that they have no idea what department at DirecTV is responsible for this data.

(DirecTV changed the receiver at their local receive facility to the new frequency almost instantly when WVUE changed over. So, their re-transmission of WVUE, both the HD and SD versions, suffered virtually no outage on their satellite.)
