Drats! Too bad it wasn't available yesterday so we could have seen the Cubs game with new MPEG-4 feed.

I instantly saw a difference during the USA Basketball game even though it was not HD? The score looked very sharp. With ESPN while watching Sportcenter the scrool looked a bit better not by much but overall improvement from MPEG 2. Also I think for the HR series when you tune the channels in the 70's it automatically gives you the MPEG4 feed, since I did not notice any changes.

I think we should hopefully see the biggest difference when they are broadcasting games, whether it is the X Games, Baseball, Football, but that may give us the best case of seeing a difference!

Well i can tune to 206 with no problem, but when i go to check the signal strength 99© is not on option, only has a and b. Is anyone else seeing this? I have an H23.

Same here. Still seeing sparklies on fast motion. Nowhere near as bad as a year ago, before D10, but definitely no better in MPEG4 than MPEG2.

49 on the hddvr the rest are 0s.

on the hd only one. its 29/30.

Here's the weird part, on the hddvrs 72 is not available. but I can tune to it just fine on the hd receiver.

If I have to get my dish realigned I'm gonna bitch the hell out of the csrs. I'm not paying 70 bucks for them to come out again.

edit: blah I keep mixing up 72/73.

if you numbers are that low, then you will need to get it reaimed...

My KA numbers were in the 59-71 range and with a few small tweaks, i got them into the high 80s and 90s.

There is an instructional video in the installation forums that might help you do it yourself

What type of dish do you have? B-Band converter plugged in? Signal strength?

Up here in Alaska I've got signal strengths 92-98. Thank God - with trees blocking my view, I was without the HD since spring. Now I can see 24 consecutive hours of Brett Favre and Manny Ramirez trade talks in HD

Not good.

I have those kind of numbers and with a first alignment got into the 70s. Gonna work on it some more but I think I have obstructions that will require a move.

There are far more technical people here then I, but 15 to 23 isn't going to get the signal. You'll need to have it typically in the 70's or above and preferably 80's or 90's.

That's where mine are.

Looks like I will have to get my dish realigned. At least I can still get the stations on the other channels

kinda off topic, but isn't the 99 getting its signal from the d11 which wasn't in place until recently?

how is that some of you had your dishes aligned when I'm assuming the tech or yourself have nothing to check signal strength for the 99 until recently.

I'm a bit pissy that I'm gonna have to waste my time calling and complaining to directv about getting my dish realigned.

I have to disagree. The PQ is much better. Much sharper picture, less grainy.

What is your signal strength for 99c?

I am guessing dish alignment for my problem. 99C doesn't exist according to my H20 and my HR20 sees it but there barely any signal strength. All 3 Satellites at 99 degrees are flaky (below 60). I have tech coming out on Saturday afternoon to realign the dish.

I think people who aren't seeing the difference never really thought ESPN HD looked bad before... Which it didn't. MPEG 2 IS HD, it's not HD at it's full potential but it's HD. And most common viewers will accept what they are seeing as a great HD picture (MPEG 2). I think those who have been so whinny about ESPN HD and MPEG 2 should have done something more productive with their time. The only thing to really consider unacceptable was the cut-outs ESPN HD has had since it's debut on D*. I really do appreciate the new MPEG 4 versions, they do look better. Noise and pixelation is as low as ESPN HD has ever been and to reference someone earlier the studio shots are exceptionally better. Now we just need to see some live action sporting events. Baseball, Basketball, the X Games should be very telling tonight (very high action) and Monday Night Football can't get here soon enough now. Either way though, I would have still been pleased with ESPN HD MPEG 2, it's just a nice little bonus to now have the slightly clearer MPEG 4 version... Thanks D*! :)
