it looks like lindsay has gotten some "help" upstairs recently.

I didn't want to say that but I think you are correct. I have mixed feelings on the augmentation thing, but she didn't get silly bigger, kind of just right, if you ask me. :)

I do like the new MPEG4 channels, but I will miss having them grouped all together though.

I agree, the 70's were an easy set of channels to surf, now I have to remember where they are located to punch them in...

That's cause they are everywhere......HD channels, that is.

It is just a move of specific channels. It always takes some time to get used to them.

Same happened to me last night on my two HR20s. I wanted to program the HDNET Test patterns and get a better quality recording. The next scheduled is 10AM on the 2nd. A search only showed up the one on Channel 79. I had to go to the guide, and manually set the recording for channel 306.

I just did another search and it still only brings up Channel 79.

I had some issues at first with finding the moved channels but they are showing up for me now in searches. Must be an indexing thing.

The Vince Gill concert today looked spectacular. I could see every little scratch and smudge on his guitars.

I honestly don't see much difference. Well let me preface this by saying I don't see much difference when there's not much going on on screen. With the MPEG2 feed if there was any quick motion I'd get a slight motion artifact (I assume this is the correct term) that I don't get with the MPEG4 channel. So I guess taking that into account the MPEG4 feed IS better.

Art Mann looked fantastic, though I had already seen the episode, so I watch enough to notice if it looked better than MPEG-2, and to me, it did! ;)

They're not showing up for me either. I tried to directly go to them and when I enter 306, it goes to 307. Both are not there. What's up?

Nevermind. Problem fixed..Operator error.

I was wondering if anyone can help me. I think I'm getting fed a line of crap from DirecTV with regard to HDN and HDNM (306 and 552 in MPEG4).

Basically, I can't get either one, I get a 771 error, even though I receive the MPEG2 versions in the 70's just fine.

306 and 552 appear to be the only stations I don't receive right now. The first time I called DirecTV about a week ago they said it was a problem on their end and that they would escalate it and it should be fixed in a day or so. A week later, still not fixed, I call back. After waiting an HOUR, I finally get a guy that puts me on hold another 15 minutes only to tell me 306 and 552 are "alternate" channels and that as long as I get the ones in the 70's I'm still getting the channels. I try to educate him that MPEG4 and MPEG2 are not the same, and that I'm paying for all the channels I should get the MPEG4 feeds. He basically blows me off (the guy was a moron).

First, can anyone explain why the only stations I'm not getting would be the MPEG4 versions of HDNet and HDNet Movies (like I said, I get the MPEG2 versions of those channels just fine)? Secondly, why is DirecTV essentially lying to me about this problem? If the problems NOT on my end, how can I get this fixed with customer service that doesn't even know what's going on?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

DIRECTV MPEG2 to MPEG4 Transition,

Is there a way to check on the HR 20 box to tell you what channels are being sent MPEG2 or MPEG4? Just curious :)

No, but the channels in the 70's and 80's are MPEG2 and everything else is MPEG4.

:welcome_s to the forum!

Yes, you are getting a load of crap from the CSRs you've spoken with. Since you're getting HDN in the 70s, we know you're paying for the HD Extra Pack, so you should indeed also be getting HDN on 306. I'm baffled about why these are the only MPEG4 channels you're getting 771 on. I'm guessing you restarted the receiver at least once? You could also try to go to the following link and reauthorize your service:

http://www.directv.c...thorization.jsp

(No guarantee that will work, but it's worth a try.)

Thanks for the welcome! Sorry to burst right in with a complaint, but I felt I was getting the runaround, and waiting an hour to speak to someone just to basically be blown off really chaps my hide.

I'm trying the reauthorization, but I suspect it isn't going to work because I think the first guy I talked to a week ago did that. And yes, I have reset the receiver several times.

Is my only hope playing musical CSRs?

I have no idea why I'm not missing any other stations.
