We have an AU9-S antenna feeding a new HR-21 receiver. At about sixty feet we get good signal on all transponders and receive all SD and HD channels. At about 220 feet we lose all HD channels and get an error 771, “searching for signal” message. SD channels seem to be fine. DirecTV had someone here to align the antenna, and so the problem appears to be between the 60 and 220 foot runs. Again all SD channels are fine, so any suggestions on how to boost the signals to receive the HD channels?

Thanks.

Do you have only a single IRD? Also is the cable solid copper or copper clad steel.

I did a 2 IRD install incl HD with SCC on 275' and things are fine so far.

You could go for locker / amp.
No longer doing DBS work, but missing every moment of it.

Two IRDs, one is SD. I now suspect signal strength is too low and antenna must be re-aligned.

Give us a set of signal strengths for the HD box.

Please post back with your signal readings for each satellite's transponders (and both tuners if applicable). You'll find these readings under "Menu" -> "Setup" -> "System Setup" -> Satellite -> "View Signal Strength".

Fill in your readings for each satellite and tuner using these examples. A properly aligned dish will show 80-90s on most of the relevant transponders (although some will be low or zero):

Here are this mornings signal strength numbers for the HR21 box:

Do you think the dish needs re-alignment? Or is the long cable run the problem?

Thanks.

Judging from the various transponder strengths, SD should be good and HD virtually non-existent.
Yep, need alignment. Tilt is off (119 values should be similar to 101).

Have the tech start from the beginning. Verify the mast is plumb and go from there, just like a new install as far as alignment is concerned.
