Dish replacing my 7100 w/o my permission

Wondering if they have done this to any one else. I have an email dated 10/01/08 stating "We apologize for the equipment problem you've recently experienced. Your replacement equipment has been shipped, which you will receive within 3-5 days." I am not having problems with my dishplayer. It is working just fine and since 2005 it has been more reliable than my 501. I still like my 7100 better than my 501. Even though the response time is slower, I like the guide, keyboard, and my upgraded 120mb drive.

I know they are phasing them out and I can accept that. My situation is that my 200lb, 15 yr old rear projection tv broke down a few months ago and instead of fixing it I am going buy a 52 inch 1080p tv and will want to upgrade my receiver to a 722. If the receiver they sent me (prob a 508) is not a 722 , I do not want it.

I have not called dish yet about sending me a 722, because they are offering no discount off of the normal $125 upgrade fee and I am uncertain about what my bill will look like after upgrading. I have read on usenet and dbstalk that CSR's have not budged off of this.

Has anyone succeeded in getting a 722 replacement for a 7100? If I was a new customer I could get it installed for $50 instead of $125 and they are the ones who are mothballing my 7100 and they are the ones that are trying to force me into a new receiver that I did not choose nor order. I think $50 installed is fair.

You can check this thread Dish Letter: Upgrade Receiver (721 etc) until someone more familiar responds. The 4th post mentions the 7100 and I assume the discussion generally will apply.

Basically you're looking at $150-200 for the 722 installed and they will likely charge you the monhly DVR fees too. They are likely shipping you a 522 - why you wouldn't call them about this is beyond me. Your obvious alternative is a new provider, but you're not going to get a 722 for $50....it's just not going to happen.

Please clarify on what you got (what receiver and at what price)? Also what are your lease/PVR fees?

Last spring I upgraded a leased ViP211 to a ViP722 for $150 up front and a $100 credit on my bill 2 months later. The CSR originally said I would get $100 back after 30 days but in the end this upgrade costed $50.00.

Have two 7100's of course with 120GB HD each.
Got the useless postcard three weeks ago and phone call two weeks ago.
Did not appreciate being called > 8PM on a Saturday by the Inidan call center.
They wanted to ship me two 508 as far as I could tell from her accent.
Told them no way ...let me look into this first.
I had no idea what the heck a 508 was. A bit of searching show it as being an 80GB PVR what has not been made for over 4 years now. So definetly a refurb.
Given the other threads about the forced upgrade, this is going to be a lot of fun. Many are being forced to scream at Dish once their bill now show lease fees and PVR fees which are supposed to be waived in this upgrade.

I'm going to hold on as long as i can and then try for at least a 612 ? We are staying Non HD for a while longer so a 625 would work also but its' USB port is useless.

I have a 508 - very stable for me. I just upgraded to a 722 and am very happy with it. However, I was very happy with the 508. I'd call and find out about lease/PVR fees and who owns the boxes they send as a replacement.

I own two perfectly fine 508's that are sitting in a closet because I'm all HD now. Personally, I'd scream and holler and thrash about to get as cheap as possible upgrade to HD and never look back.

Sigh, more people complaining that their old technology they purchased is obsolete. That's a risk of buying. And yeah, they may bee some DVR fees. But guess what, stuff cost more than it used to; it's a fact of life.

Gee, I wish Panasonic would buy me a new TV for my old one since that is becoming obsolete. But that won't happen. Dish could want you to buy a new receiver.
