I first noticed the following problem Monday, November 10, 2008, on channel 24 (FOX), during Prison Break: No Audio. The problem persisted on Tuesday, November 11th, during prime-time programming, with Dolby Digital 5.1 programming. On Wednesday, November 12th, there was audio, but it would periodically disintegrate, with voices having a metallic or buzzing quality. Video would stutter, as if trying to synchronize with the audio. Via antenna, channel 24 was okay. Problem was only on channel 24 through Directv, and although I'm not sure, seems to limited to HD programming with a Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack. I have both an HR-20 and HR-21 and problem was on both receivers. All other channels are okay as far as I know. Am planning on watching channel 24 tonight at 9:00 p.m. Will provide update after that.

The problem persists. Last night from 8 to 10 p.m., I experienced stuttering video and the metallic, buzzing voices on channel 24 (FOX), via Directv. I could not detect a problem via antenna. The problem seems to be limited to HD, DD 5.1 programming. On SD programming (some commercials during the time frame involved), with DD 2.0 soundtrack, I did not detect a problem via Directv.

Is there a problem with FOX's 5.1 soundtrack that is not detectable when viewed off-air, but is magnified by Directv's processing? Can this problem be rectified by running a fiber optic cable from FOX in Macon to channel 41 (where Directv's room is located)? The facilities are only two blocks from each other.

Is anyone else having this issue? My install is scheduled for Saturday but I will probably go ahead and cancel if this isn't resolved by then.

I noticed this during the football games on Sunday. I called Directv and they are gonna send someone out to check the alignment. However now I suppose I'll cancel that because it seems to be a problem with the feed. Luckilk I got a hr20 with my install last week so I can get the ota feed.

I reported this to D* both Sunday and Today. Sunday I was unaware it was a regional problem. Today I called and cancelled my service apt and informed them it was a widespread problem.

Back to the original, recurring problem: audio burrrrps; video stutters, stalls and catches up during HD 5.1 programming on channel 24 FOX. It's not worth watching on Directv, have to tune in OTA. My DVR records the problem, so play back is no fix. I feel sorry for those depending on Directv for their local channel 24 HD signal.

For local HD channels, I've noticed it only on channel 24 FOX, which is the only local channel in Macon that supplies DD 5.1 audio.

At about 5:45 p.m., yesterday, I noticed that HD channel 24 (FOX) through Directv had no audio at all. OTA channel 24-1 was okay. Audio has been restored as of this morning.

It is just 24 Fox...the other stations seem to be fine...thought I had gotten some freezing blackouts on 13 but lately the rest of the channels are good...only 24 messing up my Falcons game...driving me batty...has anyone actually talked to dtv about this?

Ralph Carson, engineer at channel 24 (FOX) in Macon, has ordered instrumentation that he is hopeful will fix the audio brrrppp and video stutter problem on HD programming delivered through Directv. Cross your fingers.
