The only one I'll miss is 853 "High Standards"

There's not much in the way of new offerings listed here. Perhaps we'll see more information next Wednesday.

I suppose the big question right now is whether there will be an equal number of streams after the change. Some channels already have their replacements indicated, others don't. For example, "VOX" is in limbo as of this moment, but I really don't doubt it will soon be replaced by the Metropolitan Opera channel.

Whether we'll get single artists specialty streams like the Springsteen and Buffett ones is questionable. Perhaps Sirius/XM will save those for the eventual a la carte option. Oprah was pulled for a similar reason, as it's in the "Best of XM" package.

Ok, here's the deal.

Yes, some XM channels are coming down next week. XM is consolidating much of their business due to their merger with Sirius and they are changing some stations entirely, removing others, and renaming still others. Nov. 12th is the day they'll come down.

There are some additional music channels coming soon in place of those that are coming down. The date of the new ones is unknown, but soon. Maybe very soon thereafter.

Unfortunately, Stern is already on XM. I really hate that guy - not for moral reasons - but because his act is terribly dated and boring.

I listen to both as I have Sirius in one car and XM in another. In my opinion High Standards is a little bit better but I have nothing but a gut feeling to support that. There isn't really that much difference and maybe the Sinatra channel will get better!

It isn't. It's way better, if only because it's programmed and staffed with people who knew Sinatra and know the music intimately as professionals, rather than as outsider dilettantes/fanboys like Schwartz.

As to Howard, there seems to be little-to-no chance he comes to D*. Indeed, looking forward in guide data currently shows XM removing the two talkers they had been providing (Oprah and The Virus). Given that, and given that XM is now charging their actual subscribers an extra four bucks per month per radio (!!!) to hear Stern, why would XM put him and his coterie of shock talkers on D* for free?

Perhaps DIRECTV didn't learn their lesson the first time the tried to remove The Virus, so let's hope this is not true.

The channel names sound a bit more logical and accessible under the merged list. Channel names like "Fred" and "Ethel" didn't make much sense. It may not be cool, but at least with a name like "Alt Nation" you have a clue what the programming might be like.

The dedicated artist channels are interesting, I've had some time with the Elvis and E-Street ones and they have surprising variety with lots of lesser-known material.

DirecTV has nothing to say about it, XM has removed it.

Well it sucks to hear that the Virus channel will be disappearing. I figured if the new Sirius-ized lineup stank, I could have cancelled my radio and just used D*. :-(

I'd hate to see what you consider hip and with it then.... after all, Opie & Anthony copy his show, just do the exact same things the next day... Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader is something Stern did 20 years ago. Jay Leno robs his show with his news headlines and "Jay-Walking" skits. David Letterman robbed his show for the cut-up audio books/speeches and piece them together to form new statements.... upon many many other things that are popular in today's media. I think he's just too far ahead of the curve for your tastes....

Musically and talk-show wise, Sirius trumps XM... with only maybe 2 channels being better than their Sirius counterpart. Sirius buying XM is possibly the best thing to happen to satellite radio, with only Stern going to Sirius being in the running for something better.

That's because they're the Sirius channel names, which have always been more descriptive than XM's whacky names. But they have made some stupid re-naming decisions with some of the channels, like all of the ones that now have "Sirius XM" in the name, and re-naming Sirius Hits 1 to Pop 2K. That one is really awful.

I wish they'd work on the graphics & info screens on the XM channels. Music Choice is a heck of a lot better service.

I disagree completely. I was so glad that they dumped Music Choice in favor of XM.
