Any idea when the 722k would come out? As far as unethical I thinks it's bad buisness to ask loyal paying customers to get as good a deal as a new customer. They should PRICE MATCH like stores do after all I will be upgrading recievers and have no problem with a commitment.
I agree with you 100%. E* will do some price matching if they are asked sometimes. It might pay for you to price what it would cost to get everything you need from Directv. Then, contact E* and ask them nicely what it would cost to upgrade your current system to what you want. If the D* price is cheaper, politly ask to cancel your account. You will be transfered to the retention specialist. This is the person that can make consessions. Tell them very politly what you are looking for and that D* can provide it for you with less up front cost. Also mention what programming freebies they are offering you. They will then make a counteroffer if you are deemed a good enough customer to keep. If you go this route make sure to be polite, these people deal with irate customers all day long and a little politness can go a long way with them. If you do decide to get the new account under your wife's name make sure you use the new address, the new phone number, and a different credit card that your account had on it, preferrably one that does not have your name on the account also. If you decide to do this through a local retailer do not mention your old account as they will not help you most likely. As a matter of fact, if I were going to try it I would go directly through E* as that way you are not potenitialy harming the middle man that way. Although when purchasing one receiver it might be easier to deal with a retailer but others might know more about that.
