The season premiere (Jan. 7th) is not labeled as HD. Other programming (mostly movies) on FXHD are labeled as HD.

FXHD launched on DirecTV before the last 1 or 2 episodes of season one, but they* still broadcast the rest of the season in SD. :(

Anyone know if season 2 will be HD? The show is shot in HD, as there was a BD release of season one.

Unfortunately this is not a Directv problem. If FX did not record the whole season in HD or rebroadcast episodes in HD there is nothing Directv can do. They have to take what they have.

Not suggesting it's a DirecTV problem. Obviously the choice is made by FX. Just wondering if anyone knew their plans for season two.

It's filmed in 16:9, so I can understand why FOX letterboxed it last year, since it premiered prior to the launch of FXhd. Even if it's still 480p (DVD-resolution) this year, if FXhd continues to broadcast it framed as letterbox, I'll be truly ticked-off. Hopefully they'll have enough sense to fill the screen! /steve

Be prepared to be ticked. I started recording The Shield in SD and used the format button to fill the screen. Damages is such a good show why would they not film it in HD, along with the Shield.

The Shield was not filmed in HD. I assume FX didn't want to spend the money back in 2002. It was their first real scripted show and they were yet to build any kind of audience for the network.

Damages, however, is shot in HD. Season One was released on Blu-Ray in 1080P. So, there is no valid reason for them not to broadcast Season Two in HD. That being said, I have little faith.

I don't think The Shield would have ever been shot in HD even if it went on for a few more years, I say that because of the look they were going for in that show and the cameras they used to film it. I also thought i remember seeing Damages in HD last season but I think I very well could be mistaken since it's been gone for so long! Wow that writer's strike really screwed things up!!

Expect the worst then you can't complain if it's better. :)

Let's hope you remember correctly  I really hate to watch things in SD unless I have no other choice.

Remember, there's a difference between HD and letterboxed SD. I'm less concerned about whether it's 480p or 720p then I am if it's framed letterbox (like last year's Damages), or full-screen 16:9! I'll take full-screen 480p. Won't be any worse than DVD. :) /steve

Just viewed Damages currently showing, playing full screen not letterboxed :hurah: Picture not as sharp as I would expect, but it's really late so I my eyes may be a little blurry.

Well, it was in HD. Phew. Some lip sync issues though.
