Anybody get all nervous when the Ticker about losing Noggin and 18 other channels were about to be dropped? Just to find out its about Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks. Nice its not Dish, seems Charter is having problems keeping stations on as well.

It is a shame that they have to do that on their national feeds - including ones airing on DISH etc. It is running on many channels. The channel logos and ads are running OVER the crawl!

Nickelodeon, Nogin, MTV, VH1, Spike, Comedy Central and TV Land are the listed channels (at least on this read).

This reminds me of when....

(anvil falls on head)

Oh, dear god, I was a staff member back then. This was prior to 2006, and the dispute between Dish and that suite of channels was godawful. They would run a crawl at the bottom of the screen, and Dish network would promptly black out the bottom of the screen. The next tactic was to run the crawl IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FREAKING SCREEN.

Oh, that was an interesting couple of days as a mod. Try explaining to your kid why Spongebob Squarepants was not viewable that day.

It wasn't the first major outage. Hopefully we never see anything like it again.

'Colbert,''SpongeBob' may go dark on Time Warner

Dec 31, 7:38 AM (ET)

By RYAN NAKASHIMA

LOS ANGELES (AP) - "SpongeBob SquarePants" may be getting squeezed off of Time Warner Cable.

Media giant Viacom Inc. (VIAB) said its Nickelodeon, MTV, Comedy Central and 16 other channels will go dark on Time Warner Cable Inc. (TWC) (TWC) at 12:01 a.m. Thursday if a new carriage fee deal is not agreed upon by then.

Rest of story here: http://apnews1.iwon..../D95DMHF03.html

Gee you mean to say that this just doesn't happen with Dish?

Wouldn't it be great if Viacom and Dish could get a HD deal done, and add a few more channels?

Enjoying AT 250 HBO,

Yeah, I revisited that thread before deciding to start a generalized discussion thread in the OT. Think maybe Charlie realized what was happening? The carriers are getting squeezed as the channel owners are scrounging to keep up those megaprofits.

Bright House does its retrans through Time Warner, thus why they're affected.

This happened with the LIN TV dispute too.
