Very cool! We've always wondered how they did that! Turns out it's a lot more complicated than we thought! We always thought there were sensors in the field markers!

Thank you so much for the post. That's a very nice description of a process that is much more complex than I realized.

Even I can do that.

I'm sure Directv can't wait to get their hands on your unit.

Don't know if it was BS or not but I was talking with a Walt Disney Imagineer a few years ago and it came up that they did the original design work on the process for ESPN (both Disney companies).

See post My Setup for configuration info.

Thanks for the link Ken. I have always wondered what was involved and adding in the yellow line and I must see it is a lot more than I thought.

I few years ago I was reading something talking about how much it cost to have it. I don't remember how much it was but I do remember it was a lot and now I can see why.

I wish they would apply some technology to make certain the officials spot the ball properly. How about an RFID chip in the ball that activates on the sound of a whistle? The chip signal could be captured/superimposed on a replay booth monitor to verify exact placement of forward progress/out-of-bounds decisions/crossing goal lines. Then we wouldn't have two officials who both missed the play standing there looking at each other waiting for one to have courage and make a decision.
