Sorry if this has been discussed before, but when I did a search there were a lot of hits and none seemed related.

I am new to the DVR world and have what is probably a stupid question. If I schedule my DVR to record a show, does the box need to be turned on or can I power it off between use and it is smart enough to still record when the box is powered down?

Thanks in advance.

:welcome_s to DBSTalk!

The DVR does not really turn off, it goes into standby. When that happens only the front panel lights turn off and the A/V outputs turn off. Other than that the DVR is still fully functional.

BTW is it an HD DVR or SD DVR so I can move it to the correct forum? Thanks

Sorry, it is an HD DVR. Thanks for the info. I thought it would be smart enough to just go into standby mode, but couldn't find anything to support that thought. Didn't want to miss a show because it accidentally got turned off.

Thanks again.
