I did a search but didn't find anything... Does anyone have a list of the channels in the current "Select" package - I'm looking at downgrading from my current package. As I understand it the "Select" package is similar to the current Family package but with some additional channels. Thanks.

From what I can tell, it will be $48.99 come March 4th.

I think "select" is an international package. So unless you sub to international is really isn't an option.

BASIC & PREFERRED CHOICE are the International Packages... Here's the PDF for the International Packages (http://www.directv.c...ooternavtype=-1). The SELECT package is a special retention package between FAMILY and CHOICE. I'm interested in comparing the channel offerings between PREFERRED CHOICE and SELECT.

Actually I thought Select Choice was an old package that is now just grandfathered for some people?

It used to be:
Select Choice
Total Choice
Total Choice Plus

I could be wrong, but I thought thats how it was.

If you downgrade your subscription package you will no longer be able to get it back. Go to DirecTV.com and review the current packages and see what might fit your needs. They don't have the older packages listed to compare with, but you could always take note from your receiver what you have now.
DirecTV since '96, Waivers for ABC, CBS, NBC, & Fox, HR23-700 & HR24-500/AM21, using ethernet based MRV.

CSR told me when I had Select earlier this year, that it is only offered to long time customers, with the "long time" being an unknown amount of time. I was a current 4 year customer accoording to their computer.

It is not a Grandfathered package. It is still being offered when customer requests it, though some CSR's will tell you it is no longer available. Thats when you ned to call back and talk to another knowledgeble CSR.

I was offered this package by the CSR that took my call today. He called it "Select Classic". He confirmed it has 123 channels, no region sports nets :( but the usual complement of entertainment and news channels. xmetalx's list seems accurate. I went from $61.49 a month for Total Choice Select to this at $39.99. All in all I'm satisfied with the selection. It took out a lot of channels I wasn't watching that were clogging up my guide anyway.

FWIW, I've been a Directv sub since '97. I'd like to think I've been with them long enough to get a few perks!

Instead of goofy "secret" packages for "long term" customers threatening to cancel, wouldn't it be nice if DirecTV created a selection of packages like DISH network has so you don't have to play games or pay for channels you never watch? <sigh>

I think this is a fabulous package for folks that need to cut back their DirecTV bill.

I called today and the CSR gave me the "Select Classic" package, $10 off per month for 12 months, and Showtime for 3 months. I do lose a few channels I like (History, Military, etc.), but it's a sizable savings in tight times. I did have the older Choice Plus package with DVR and HD and a monthly bill of $93. Now I have fewer channels (though still a VERY good selection, including the ESPNs), DVR, and HD with a bill of only $51.

Do you get mailings from DISH? If so, have you compared the channels in their AT120 ($39.99/mo) to Choice Select, especially the HD?

Here you go:
1) A&E-HD
2) Cartoon Network-HD
3) CMT-HD
4) CNBC-HD
5) CNN-HD
6) Comedy Central-HD
7) Disc-HD
8) E!-HD
9) ESPN-HD
10) ESPN2-HD
11) Food Network-HD
12) FOX News-HD
13) HDNet
14) HGTV-HD
15) History Channel-HD
16) HLN-HD
17) Lifetime-HD
18) MTV-HD
19) Nick-HD
20) SyFy-HD
21) Spike-HD
22) TBS-HD
23) TLC-HD
24) TNT-HD
25) Travel-HD
26) USA-HD
27) VH1-HD
28) Weather Channel-HD
29) MAV TV-HD

I don't know about you, but this is a programming package I could live with since it features a few of my "go to" channels, History, Travel, E! for "The Soup", that Choice Sh**lect omits. Basic cable channels for Gods sake.

Ceton 6 tuner eth, Cisco Tuning Adapter 1520, TWC Digital Explorer Pak and Standard Internet, TiVo HD (upgraded to 500 GB) for OTA,TC-P50U50, SONY NSZ-GT1 BD player and Google TV box, Yamaha RX-V373 A/V receiver, Squeezebox Duet music streaming device, Xbox 360

Has the price increased to 44.99? Or is there another package for 41.99?

There's 2 "Select" packages.

One is the "Select Classic" for 39.99, and is only available upon request or if you ask to lower your bill they might offer it. The other is a regular base package called "Select" for 44.99 that has about 7 channels more, incl History, Lifetime, Hallmark, Food, ABC Family, GMC, History International..

Here is the channel lineup for the regular base package version:
"Select" ($44.99 mo.) - http://www.directv.c...ckageId=1150002

Again, as I have posted in another thread the 44.99 mo. package is not available to order online at DIRECTV.com in all zip codes.

This is most helpful, but I really do despise the game-playing that I am forced to go through shortly to try lower my bill. I can't stand another increase, and if these "secret" programming choices were plainly listed on the website I would click and switch immediately. However, since I can't, is it best to call regular CSR or Retention? Thanks~

Edit: Uh-oh, upon further review, no AMC (Mad Men, Breaking Bad) and no F/X (Rescue Me, final season)? Ugh. May have to cut the grocery bill instead...sorry kids. This sucks~

I was offered the SELECT package when I had inquired about NFL Sunday Ticket. I had no idea about the package until the CSR told me about it. I agreed to switch to it from my Choice Extra (or whatever the 2nd package is) after the CSR assured me all my rebates would remain in effect.

What a battle that became since my rebates disappeared. I was only able to get the rebates back in place after several calls and emails and switching back to one of the advertised packages.
