Hi
I wanted to check if the only difference between 222 and 6/722 receivers
is the HDD drive. I heard that if I pay $40 external HDD activation fee
for the 222[K], then I don't have to pay the monthly $6 DVR fees. Has
anyone have any experience with this.

I currently have a 622 and my 722 upgrade is supposed to arrive in
another week or so. I may decide to go w/ 222K and add my external
750GB HDD.

I don't have a 222K and I am not sure if external EHD support is available yet on that model. I would be surprised if you can record 3 HD streams at once or even two. My guess is that you would be able to record one but I could be wrong.

Don't have a lot of knowledge in this but my gut is that though this is a nice addition to the DVRs it is not the same as having a 722/622 or even the 612.

Hopefully someone with the 222K will chime in

DVR option is NOT (yet) available for the 222/222k, and may never be available. If you want a DVR, I recommend getting a DVR, and not counting on the 222/k to be one.

Thanks Ron. 211's have EHD support for sure, and E* claims no DVR fees
after a one time activation fee. This one will have only one tuner though.

Damn, would be nice to save the DVR fees for a 2+1 tuner model :)

All you have to do is sub to America's Everything package. That will "save" you the DVR fee.
