Thanks Doug! Are you just wanting to list off-the-shelf add-on eSATA drives?

I've had no problems with the recommended WD 1TB SATA drive mounted in an Antec MX1 eSATA enclosure. This is recommended in the eSATA FAQ thread. Works great.
HD DVRs: HR34-700; HR24-500; (2) HR20-700 + WD eSATA 1TB drive/Antec MX1 case; HR21-700; HR21-200 w/AM21
Receivers: H25-500 HD Receiver; H21-100 HD Receiver
Mobile Devices: Nomad

Me thinks the little blue winky face is the best answer you are going to get.

Are they going to force us into using one of their "approved" setups only? If that were to happen, they would lose a 12+ year subscriber.

Info taken from WD's website about the DVR expander:

Quiet and Cool - A unique no-fan passive cooling system and special hard drive design makes it quiet for the living room or bedroom.

Not in this lifetime. I will not use an external enclosure without a fan, they dont hold up. Also, interestingly enough, a search of WD's website has zero hits for the 1TB model

They can't force us to use one of those. How could they even know?

I don't like passive External enclosures either.

Don't think they can "shut off" a drive type.. but it would be nice to see specific approved/tested ones..
