Funny that you mention that...

Same Roof, Same day..

Posted Image

boy makes me wish i had a pic of my old C band from my old house. When my original dish fell over the guys doing the replacement decided they didnt want to drill holes in my flat roof so stacked up 400 lbs of blocks in the fashion of the above pic. They assured me 'it would never move' ...needless to say, the first big storm the dish not only blew over, it was hanging off the edge of the roof ready to crush the neighbors car. the installer was called and he got out within the hour. the new guys decided to drill down through the roof joists and bolt it in that way. I guess they didnt want to reuse the blocks ;)

Saw this on my way to work . . . I apologize for the crappy pic, taken from a slowly moving car across the road, but look closely to the right. The Dish installer used what looks like a wall mount turned on its side. You can't see from the pic (again, apologies), but there's what looks like a few cinderblocks and a couple bricks at the base for "support" plus coax run across the back yard to the house.

The relocation job my son and I did would put most of these so-called professional installers to shame. My dish was originally on the roof of the rear extension of my house. The roofing was in dire need of replacement and had a roofing contractor do it. Since the dish had to come off, ( I never really liked it there) I decided to move it to the roof extension off my detached garage to the rear of my yard. Set the dish on a 2" o.d mast/heavy duty 3' tripod combo from SolidSignal rated for 100 mph winds (we never get that) additionally supported by 2 monopoles. Overkill? O.K. I admit that, but let Mother Nature do her worst. Realignment was a piece of cake-high 80s,mostly 90+ to 100 signal strengths on all birds. Then ran new 1694A Belden RG6 under my deck to a ground block and into the basement to my Zinwell WB68 multiswitches. I will provide pix when I get a chance.

Nice fix job. Very neat, but unecessary if it had been done right the first time. I have to ask, are you the homeowner or a contractor brought in to do the fix? Must add that run over the entrance door was a disgrace and the icing on the cake to a very sloppy job.

I'm a tech. I went there on an upgrade. Couldn't leave it like that. Had supervisor blank me out the next day and got it done right. The only way to avoid running across the lower door entrance was to use two dishes, so that's what I did.

If my memory card didn't crap out I'd post some funny ones. Like a 18" attached to a chimney using 1/4" anchors with screw clips.

edit: Also, I was not the first person out since it was installed. He had several other upgrades and they just added crap on. Kept on zip tying the lines across the door, cable company and phone company also zip tied lines to ours. It was BAD.

So this homeowner accepted all this as it went from bad to worse as if all these "upgrades"? were the way things were done and never complained? Unbelievable!

I'm not an installer, just a 'regular' customer. This has to be the most entertaining thread I've ever read here! Most interesting!!!

Keep 'em coming!!!!

:D

I'll second that. I too am just a 'regular' customer. I had done all of my own installs up until I got the my HR21, which came with free install of a new dish.
I too, have no pictures of my installs (particularly not of the mistakes I've made!)

I guess what bothers me is that so many of these were done by "professional" installers. If you told me they were all done by dumb customers like me, I could swallow my pride and laugh anyway. Telling me some of these were done by folks who were paid for the work just makes me cry.

I love thee pictures, after being a Dish Network tech in Detroit. If only I would have thought to take pictures...
One of the guys at my shop installed a dish upside down on a balcony of an apartment to get a line of sight - it worked.
You wouldn't believe how may apartments I went to, and the dishes were in a bedroom or living room in buckets, pointed towards a window. One guy was getting singal with his blinds closed! Of course I could never upgrade them or anything.
Detroit is a very intersting area to install!
