^^ Shared trap with a disposer isn't such a hot idea.

###

Since we've moved into plumbing, I'll relate a story I already shared a couple of years ago on another forum. Actually, it involves plumbing and electrical work.

We were having a major landscaping project done in front of the house (pretty much everything ripped out and redone, etc. etc.) In the course of ripping things out, grinding stumps, etc., the stump grinder of course hit the same cable (that had already been hit another time due to it only being buried about 2 inches) yet again. Actually, we eventually found it cut in two places this time!.

Here's where it crossed the walkway to the front door:

2012-06-C1-0494.jpg

Well, since we were still looking for the second cut, we started inspecting where it crossed the sidewalk. Likely, it would be in some kind of conduit, right? Here was the view of things from the other side (BTW, note how the downspout is adapted to some 4-inch PVC pipe—which is reduced to 3-inch PVC pipe under the walkway. That will become significant in a moment. :)):

2012-06-C1-0495.jpg

So we started inspecting where the wire crossed under the sidewalk... and (here's the most egregious example of WORKMANSHIT I've come across yet):

One side of sidewalk:

2012-06-C1-0498.jpg

Other side:

2012-06-C1-0499.jpg

That's right: what you're seeing is that some ****** "electrician" had blown a hole into that downspout drain and RUN THIS 120 V CABLE INSIDE THE DRAIN PIPE for a few feet, and then pulled it back out through another hole blasted into the pipe. The holes, of course, were not even drilled, but hammered out or something. And then carefully sealed with some silicone blobs (which had already been removed for these photos), because this guy obviously believed in quality.

Holy crap.

And here's where it gets even better: not more than three feet farther along the sidewalk, there are two PE conduits with plenty of spare space for more cables (you can see them in the extreme lower right of the second photo above).

So what is wrong with that picture...

Its not really the shared trap, that's normal, the issue is if you look closely, the lines run down to the elbows, then they actually traverse uphill slightly to get to the tee, then go over and into the trap.  They NEVER drain! So it in effect completely defeats the purpose of ever having a trap, as water and stuff sits there and gunks up and smells.  The proper way to install is run the line directly out of the disposal to a tee that then shoots down into the trap so its all downhill and directly into a trap.  Not horizontal to get to the trap, and defiantly not uphill.

As for that electrical wire, thats a down right fire hazard that way!

I took some up close pictures as-well. Notice the duct tape, Zip Ties, Wire supports, and hose clamps affixed to the pole. you can also see that the pole was sleeved and welded. they even attempted to camouflage it

Any LOS closer to the ground? I've seen some strange mounts where required to get LOS. At least this doesn't get blocked if someone parks a motorhome next to the dish. :)

While we're a tad OT, there's this shocking discovery --

iAbwNuQ5aqXSb.jpg

-- probably on special order only

Just found this and haven't finished the thread but this was a legitimate connector . . .not anything close to a 110 plug.  We had an audio board at a radio station that I worked at as a teenager that had audio connections like this.

I don't remember if I mentioned this before, but I had a friend whose dish was nailed to a pine by the D* installer. Signal would go in  and out according to how the wind blew. Finally, it got so bad she had to cancel.

This was a swap replace upgrade I rolled out to last week. Need less to say, I made about 25 bucks to fix this. That's a rail mount pole fyi.

^ Also used for draining off excess signal when pressure builds up and is a potential

danger to our four-legged felines  -- an RF/CAT safety valve if you will.
