Folks,

It seemed like a good time to reboot this thread. We still want to have a place to discuss what new HD channels we'd like to see in 2009 from DIRECTV.

Like the "DLB" thread in the HD DVR forum, the rules are a little more relaxed, just keep to topic and do not insult anyone. The moderators will delete rude or harassing posts and issue infractions at will.

You all are welcome to report rude, harassing, or off topic posts. That has been very helpful in the past.

One more thing... DIRECTV probably won't be reading this thread to figure out what to do next... this is just a place for you to vent your frustrations and your hopes.

Other threads on this topic will be closed.

DirecTV: Genie HR44, H25, CCK, GenioGo, SWiM-16 & SWiM-8, DECA to Gigabit Switch with FiOS (75/75)
FiOS: Roamio Pro's (2), Roamio Plus, Mini's (4) with Ultimate HD (My Roamio Thoughts)

I'm looking forward to some progress.

Since it costs 2.4¢ to produce a penny, my 2¢ worth is really 4.8¢ worth.  That 4.8¢ is my own and not the 4.8¢ of DIRECTV, Dish, or anyone else for that matter.

Rather that theorizing and debating about why not (complete with transponder and licening data -- this seems to be popular but doesn't offer much in the way of direction), how about some discussion of what channels need to be added and why?

I would hope that this could be limited to channels that show some sign of being available in the foreseeable future (ie. not Chiller). Another line that doesn't help is the one that espouses HD versions of SD channels as a way out of deplorable SD PQ.

Contrary to the position of some highly placed posters here, there are plenty of channels with considerable appeal that are not already carried. It would be useful to help prioritize them as well as identifying those that are universally not worth adding.

Yes, Travel HD would be the one I watch the most. I currently have the SD version amongst all my HD favorites. So I'd second that!

Actually, that wouldn't be a bad idea except remember, that would be completely academic. Our friends at DIRECTV will never use this thread to determine what to put up next. That's just not going to happen. Trying to create a wish list or petition for new HD channels... just isn't going to work. The purpose of this thread is to allow you all to have a place to vent a little bit about channels you want, without getting too negative.

...oh and one more thing...

If you don't like the direction this thread is going, please consider the following options:

(1) Report all the posts where you think forum rules have been broken.
(2) Ignore the people who are annoying you. Those who are just here to fuel the fire will go away if you ignore them.

Thanks.

I'm looking forward to our locals in HD. I have absolutely no concept of what capacity remains for Ka spotbeams, though. Many of you have helped to educate me on what's left for CONUS beams and where capacity remains there for the national channels we all want.

I've gotten to where I just don't watch much (other than Top Gear) that's not HD. I find myself skipping a whole ton of channels that I pay for just because I don't see the HD symbol in the program guide. I like the idea of Travel in HD like so many others, but I'd really like to see more movies. Outside of sports, that's really where you get the most programming in HD. Certainly because production is still ramping up for a lot of the content on our HD stations, I'd rather add a station that's ready-made to go HD almost all of the time.

Obviously, first up I'd like ESPNU HD, but so long as that arrives before football season....!
