I don't doubt that in the recent past quite a few people may have bought a ppv, however the economic situation is so radically different now that I have a hard time believing that many people are using it. It appears that D* is pushing it very hard only lately (because no one is actually using it now?)

D* should look into to changing their agreement with whomever is in control of the PPV operations in Hollywood.

My bet is that they could drastically reduce the number of PPV channels in the channel line up, since they probably are no longer being purchased that often by customers.

in a bad econonmic situation the ppv is cheaper than the movies. by myself it was 17.50 (6.50ticket 11.00popcorn) now figure a family of 4. the ppv is a better deal.

I didn't say the economy was "bad", I said it was RADICALLY different.

I doubt many families are debating whether to go to the theater or watch a PPV. It is more likely they are discussing whether they will keep satellite/cable or get rid of it. :eek2::(

$11.00 for popcorn?

I'd figure a way to last two hours without food.

I admit to being a D* fanboy from way back but in the real world have been using Red Box for the few years. The other day I went into Blockbuster, (once a partner with D*) and they had dropped their price to $2/24hr rentals including BluRay. The manager said they plan to stay in the movie rental business and will likely make further price cuts. I am afraid DirecTV Cinema rentals will be limited to those who are still buying Hummers, (nothing wrong with that).

I have a quick question. Within the "guide" none of the CNMAHD or CNMA channels have the little "$" logo next to the movie title. Any reason why?

It's a trick, you watch it, then they charge you for it.

To me it just seems like the perfect location (within the guide) to utilize the "$" logo/tag.:whatdidid

I would almost bet I'll be buying a PPV this weekend since I'm getting my first 1080p set on Saturday...and no other source for 1080p.

Equipment includes a buncha stuff that I no longer have interest in detailing

For the price of 22 CNMAHD movies you can buy a Blu-ray player. :D

Thanks! Actually, I think I will be buying a Blu-ray player on Sunday...but I get the TV on Saturday!

Once i get the Blu-ray, we'll see how much I still like the premiums and PPVs, since I have Netflix already.

Since you're already on Netflix, you should pickup a Blu-ray player that streams Netflix. It is pretty cool.

I got the Samsung BD-P2550 a few months back. Very happy with it. Streaming quality better than I expected.

Have fun on Saturday!

Until they're able to cut a deal with Hollywood and change the 24-hr viewing rules, I doubt I'll be using it, even with the new name.

agreed and how about redbox pricing of a buck a night

Seen that in our local wal-mart ad. To bad the brand is terrible and I would not touch it with a 10 foot pole. Magnavox

Walmart also has the Samsung BD-1590 (Really a BD1600, with a slight model # change for Walmart) $238. You get the Blu-Ray Live features, Streaming Netflix, and Pandora Radio.

It turns out I was too busy to do a PPV this weekend or buy a Blu-ray player, although i did get the TV.

I'll probably order the Samsung BD-1600 from BB today.

It will be interesting to compare Blu-ray with DirecTV Cinema.

Just a guess, I bet blu-ray will look better.
